Default New Test Release of Freerange! - 07-17-2007, 07:40 PM

Note for Blackberry: uninstall before installing!

Install from:

http://t.mwap.at

Changes:

- NEW: Change Feeds and Articles view to scroll by line if "Scroll by page" is turned off.
- NEW: Added new setting in Display: "Enable 'Access links' always in Full Story". This will force the app to start in "Access links" mode when viewing a full story.
- NEW: Reduced memory consumption when downloading data
- Added support for our new FavIcon loading mechanism. It's much faster and more resource efficient.
- Switched the secondary question view items to be left-aligned instead of centered.
- Now in "Add Feed by Url", you don't have to enter the feed title
- Fixed a bug where full story was deleted only after both the later version and article itself was deleted. Before it would delete the full story if either of them were deleted.
- Fixed bug in Feeds view where naming folder 8830 and/or starting feed name with a single quote doesn't display right
- Fixed up colors for some themes, especially the "Darkness" theme.
- Improved application performance slightly

Blackberry:

- NEW: Took out scrollbar and replaced with the standard Blackberry scrolling arrows at the top and bottom of the screen.
- NEW: For "Flash LED" option, now flash for 60 seconds instead of 10.
- Added support for Blackberry Email. It's available within the Send menu and also can be set as the only approach via "Settings -> Only use Blackberry Email for Send".
- Fixed slow launch time. It now starts instantly.
- Space key will now always do a page-down, even if app is set to scroll-by-line. Alt-Space now does a page-up instead of move-to-background. Move-to-background is now Alt-Del.
- Added new setting: "Download -> Notify when new articles are downloaded after Update". Its options are: "None", "Play sound", "Vibrate" or "Flash LED".
- Added support to capture trackball scrolling on the X-axis in image zoom (in addition to the Y-axis).
- Added rollover icon support

Was hoping for the ability to save archive feeds to the memory card. They said it is a possibility for a future release, hopefully we'll see it soon. I still love this app though.

Under "Settings" what does "Use Test Server" mean?

950->957->7510->7520->8700->CURVE!

This release is getting close to the 'perfect' rss reader...I am not sure if i can think of any more features that I'd like?

I know someone had mentioned saving articles to a memory card....anyone think of anything else?

All of the issues i had with the previous release have been fixed in this release and then some!

Heres my only suggestion

Add a feature that allows automatic opening of links in freerange or browser.
  • Option 1: Always open links in freerange.
  • Option 2: Always open links in browser

Other than that. This product is perfect!

Thank you for the link. I did install the program. It is far better than Viigo. My recollection tells me that this program allowed up to 10 feeds in its free version

You are correct. The free version does offer 10 feeds. Unlimited if you do sign up for their program.

I'm sure if you give this a shot you will agree that this far surpasses Viigo.

Did you purchase FR or were one of the 25 beta subs that were given away?

What is the price for multiple feeds? Bloglines is free and gives me unlimited feeds. Too bad I missed out on the 25 feed option mentioned above.

FreeRange Communications for info on pricing. It is a bit pricey for unlimited feeds, but it blows away bloglines in terms of design, style, and functionality.

Excellent idea! Consider it done for the next version.

The "One Year License" is what's keeping me from buying. I really like the app, and could use more than 10 feeds. But $40 is steep enough for a software purchase for a handheld. $40 a year is just way too much. I do have an aversion to annual fees on software as well.

Great product though.

No. You need to install from http://t.mwap.at, not http://mwap.at

The new 2.2.7 test #2 is very strong, David - thanks! The enhancements your team has made since 2.2.6 are great, 2.2.7 feels very polished.
