Okay, I figured I would install an ssh app on my 8100 just to be safe for when I'm not at my desk...

Well, after installing the demo and setting up my server details I continually get the error :

Disconnected : Connection timed out!


Any help for this would be appreciated. I am using SSH2 and have loaded my key in the profile along with double checking all details and settings - everything is correct.

Just to be safe I logged in with WinSCP and went perfect as usual - so I guess my question is why am I timing out? I hve never had this issue before and I doubt it has anything to do with the Pearl's speed. I am using a non-standard port 2087 to prevent login attempts as well, but that should not be a problem either.

Also, I am not on BES and have it set for tcp/ip connection. wap.voicestream.com confirmed in settings with tmobile.

Anyone?

Okay, figured out the error on my part, but now my passphrase is not accepted when I am POSITIVE it is correct.

Is it possible the 8100 is sending the pass in a different format since its coming off the pearls keypad?

Really can't understand this one at all. I even created new ssh2 keys to make sure.

The single most comon problem we have with 8100's and passwords is people who type the password incorrectly. You must be very very careful as it is difficult to type with the suretype keyboard and passwords with odd characters. I would recommend that you type the password in an email, select it, copy the password, then paste it into Mobile SSH, that way you garantee that you did not type it incorrectly.

Well, when entering my password it is as simple as hitting a button once or twice depending on the letter and hitting shift for numbers plus I can see what is on the screen before it turns to *.

Regardless, I used your method of copy/paste from an email and the same result happens. The password incorrect prompt occurs so fast after sending that I find it hard to believe it even tries sending it.

Any other suggestions?

That's interesting, you say you created new ssh2 keys, are you using key authentication or password authentication?

I suggest that you email our support team directly with all the details of your configuration at and I'm sure they will be able to help diagnose your problem faster.

Well, after using my original private key (I have always used SSH for my server) and found the login was not being accepted I created a new pub/priv key pair just to make sure and got the same result. I have been in contact with your support team since the problem started just using this forum as another venue of support. Everything appears fine with the auth messages being shown on the pearl then as soon as I get to the passphrase it does nothing, but give me the incorrect passphrase error and prompts me immediately again to enter it (there is no pause at all or other messages shown which makes me think the passphrase is not even being sent).

Lastly, due to the security on my server, if there are is a certain number of incorrect login attempts within a given time frame my server will ban the ip and notify me via email of the ban. Even with the numerous attempts to login through mobile ssh and getting the wrong passphrase error I have yet to be banned or listed on my server as banned. This just supports the above where I think the passphrase is never sent at all.
