I had been looking for software like this since I got my Pearl the day it came out - I tried BerryBlocker and the software would never work and the support team stopped responding. They also have not updated in some time.

I recently bought Black & Whitelist and love it. The developer was a great help with an issue I had with it (I enter my phone entries with spaces) and was able to fix the problem and release a new version a few days later. He is also planning on adding some features soon.

My reco is Black & Whitelist.

I'm using Black & Whitelist. Now at this time, I don't need a call blocker/rejector for any specific caller/spammer. However, if I find that I have a need in the future, I'll be ready. I do like that Black & Whitelist recognizes and supports unknown callers and callers with blocked numbers, in addition to punting callers that are specified in a Blacklist, and that the blacklist can be turned off without removing the callers from the list.

I tested it in a variety of circumstances and am satisfied that it will do what I want when the time comes that I'd need it.

is there a manual for this?

i cant figure out how to even input #'s into White & Blacklist

this software does not seem intuitive at all, and i've used hundreds of software titles...

how do you input peoples #'s and how do you pick from your address book?

still waiting to hear from muanufacturer

setting rules? anytone? picking no.s to block?

what does it mean also to set block rule? blacklist, whitelist, address book

i choose blacklist for instance, and all it says is ACTIVE, ok, so only one can be active? and how bout putting numbers in?

is berryblocker more intuitive?

thanks guys...

It is pretty self explanatory - just hit the menu button on any number whether it be call log, address book, etc and you will see black and whitelist in the menu. Click that and do what you need to.

morrow, thanks,

wow, never thought of that

i think it would make a whole lot more sense to be able to pick your numbers from the actual program, and assign numbers manually by typing them in

my bad,

the User interface is quite confusing,

the numbers in the blacklist look like tey are in the whitelist (to me)
because of the 2 horizontal lines separating,

the interface needs a bit of work.

i sent these suggeations to white/blacklist developer
anyone else have any ideas?
most of these ideas were taken from a program called CallFilter for Treo

1. password protect to enter program. (i dont want nosy people going into my program to see who i have on my blacklist)

2. the people listed on blacklist look like they are on the whitelist instead because of your user interface, the 2 horizontal lines makes it look confusing. fix up interface a bit

i think you should have the blacklist numbers appear in RED, and the white list in GREEN, because red usually means stop and green means go

3. you should be able to type telephone numbers to block

4. you should be able to choose from address book, but be able to choose if you want to block, mobile, or both, NOT BLOCK ALL NUMBERS, as the only option as is now

5. you should be able to send the "blacklisted" people an automatic SMS, when they call, or send to voice mail. your SMS could be "i'm busy now, call ya later"

6. when a call comes in that's from your blacklist , you should have option of signaling a special tone, mp3 file, ringer of your choice, and also have option of the LED light flash 2x really fast., or change color, so this way you know you've missed a call, which was blocked.etc

7. ability to filter SMS messages not only by phone number but also by the email address which sent SMS

8. ability to automatically autolock Blackberry based on an incoming SMS

9. ability to set date/time for all rules, monday -friday, 9-5 etc.

Im looking into that stuff too...
I wanna know if your using the white black list... when they call and the call is blocked... do you get a message saying missed called and it still shows their number? Because the BerryBlocker does that and I hate that... The reason I want to get a blocker is so I DONT know they called... Not notify me after that they called... and then I have to keep deleting them from my call log.
Another question is when its blocked does it go to the voice mail? Or it just doesnt ring at all on their side? Because I dont want 20 voicemails and I never even saw who called me....

I've been using Black & Whitelist for a while now. WOrks pretty good. One question though: What's the difference between blacklist and whitelist. I assume it has nothing to do with my race LOL

Basically, if you have a person in your Blacklist, and the Blacklist is "active", then an inbound call gets handled like this: the phone will not ring or vibrate, although it does make a tiny beep I noticed. The caller gets immediately sent to voicemail. The ringing on their side does not go the normal duration until it times out to voicemail, it goes right away. You do still get the popup advising you that you missed a call, and the led does still flash red.

If you have a contact in your Whitelist, and the Whitelist is "active", then an inbound call is allowed through. Any contact not listed in your Whitelist will get sent to voicemail. You will still have a popup and red led to notify you of your missed call.

If you have a contact in your Addressbook, and Addressbook is "active", any contact listed in your Addressbook will be allowed through. All others, whether they are on your Blacklist or Whitelist, or if they are blocked or unknown (whether you have block Private or block Unknown set or not), will get sent to voicemail. You will still get a popup and led will flash.

To summarize:

Blacklist = DON'T allow numbers on Blacklist. Allow all others through.
Whitelist = DO allow numbers on Whitelist. Don't allow any others through (even those in addressbook).
Addressbook = DO allow numbers in Addressbook. Don't allow any others through (even those on whitelist).

Block Private and Block Unknown can be used in addtion to the three options.

Is there anyway it does not go to the voicemessage? I mean... thats the reason I want it in the first place. What good is it if they can still leave messages... Or what good is it if I can still see they called...
In that case I can just reject it manually... I still get to see who called and they still leave a message... Imagine having 25 voice messages daily of someone you wanna ignore...
So this WhitelistBlacklist isnt all that great other than blocking a call you can do it manually in 2 sec.
I thought the point of this program was so you never found out they were calling you (bothering) and so they cant get to you in anyway...

Callfilter for treo answer and hangup immediately... So you never know they called. That is great for unwanted calls. Can it be done with B&W List?

The point of the program, as I see it, is that you don't get disturbed with calls from those that are blocked.

While I do see your points about having 25 voicemails, I also know from the caller logs who called and what calls I missed, and so if it were just my blocked callers I'd missed, I'd be in no hurry to go check voicemail.

Is it true that after you download the program and have it running, then a second email comes from the company to ask about your device's pin?

It seems like a scam...I bought the program off of smartphone.net. In bad English they said they would send send my registration key once I send my pin.

It came from i-softwarelabs [iberrysupport@hotmail.com]

How you get your key can vary depending on the site where you purchased it. Larger online merchants (e.g. Handango) can generate a key for you based on your PIN "on the fly" and the merchant can email it to you even before you've finished downloading. Other merchants might not have that ability. I haven't used smartphone.net so I don't know. But in a case where the merchant can't generate the key for you, generally when you purchase the software, an email notification is sent to the author, who then may have to ask you for your PIN if the merchant didn't do so or include that in the notification to the author, who then generates your key and sends it to you.

That hotmail address for him is legit. Also, yes -- I would imagine he's from overseas somewhere and English isn't his native language.

Thank you very much, the email was legit indeed, I guess I was just being a tad bit paranoid, but maybe thats why I run this software in the first place!

A question for Black and Whitelist:

For unknown and private numbers I have the settings on "blocked" and it goes straight to voicemail. I have seen an argument here that this basically is the same thing as "hitting" ignore on your phone.

On their website they said depending on your phone configuration you can have it set to have an incoming blocked or private number hear endless silence when they call or an endless "busy" tone. How can I configure those features? I would rather have that then to have it go straight to voicemail which isn't really what I call "blocking".

I hope you didn't pay much for the application.

For the most part it seems just like the "Exception" capability that I currently use under the profiles on the Blackberry. There are thos people I dont want to hear from so I set their contact info to 'silent'. Because I have ATT and I have the 'Answer tones' i have a message just for them that says that the number is disconnected... havent gotten a call back from anyone on that group since ;-P

Just got an update from the publisher:

In future release, around end of this month, I've add reject action that you can select keep ringing, hang up + disconnecting, reject immediately which actually effect endless busy tone.

Don't miss to upgrade to that.

Yeah! I'd passed on to the author what some of us were looking for (not to go to voicemail) a couple weeks ago; and he said he would work on it. At that time, he'd had limited success with pickup/hangup -- but that he had some ideas (like keep ringing looks like one).

When I saw that he'd released an Aug 17 version yesterday, I checked it out but these features weren't in there yet.

I just got this great program a few days ago and have caught up with software updates list. I will be looking at downloading the upgrade as soon as it comes out. Klotar, thanks for checking with the author (does he post here?), I'll be looking forward to the next update that will have these tools.

Sorry to ask but where can I download 1.27? I see Softpedia has it now but other sites such as the following still have 1.25 listed:

I got 1.27 on Handango.

The author does have a useraccount here but other than an introductory post some time ago, I haven't seen him post since.

I wish it would completely reject them and not give them the option for voicemail. This is the only thing stopping me from pulling my wallet out and buying this. Could this be a future option? I know that the program is device-specific (meaning it just creates selective ringing for selected numbers) and not something that can go hand in hand with your service to prevent voicemails.

Maybe if those in the blacklist would get muted ringtone, and the program automatically answers and hangs up the call immediately to prevent any voicemail and give them a hint at the same time?

If you read the past few posts in this thread where we have talked about it, features such as the caller hearing an endless ringing, busy tone, or other things with it not going to voice mail will be added to the program in a new update at the end of the month.

I'm 'Black & Whielist' developer.
As some customers heard about its features via email, I not list it here again but will announce those features on release date 3/September/2007.

I have to change application name to 'i,Call Manager' because 'black & white list' name is not make sense when I want to add features (in the future after this release) like record conversation, answering machine, disconnect out going call, prohibit out going call, forward call scheduler, etc…

80% of the features are from your requests and suggestions and always welcome, because you know what you want (and I know how to develop :p )

These sound very exciting! Thanks for the update and news.

Lowrider, my GUESS is that upgrades would be free based on the policy for B&W List even though the name changes, but of course it'd be up to the author.

thats a good question; i hope so cause i bought it yesturday morning. i had berry blocker and they have fell off the face of this earth. i haven't seen a new version or anything; their not even on handango website nomore. so i bought black&white list. it works very well. about the same as berry blocker. i wonder if they are the makers of berry blocker with a new name; this would be better than just giving everbody and software update. cause berrry blocker kept freezing my 8800; and the guy never responded back with an update when i emailed him about the problem. just a thought.

I interpret the author's post to mean that the next version in 4 days will still be Black & Whitelist, but the versions after that will have the new name.

In any event, yeah -- I'm looking forward to the upcoming versions!
