Ah, now I know what the problem is....

You need a runtime package from Microsoft...
Download details: Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

Sorry about that.

RemyJ,
I installed the Visual C++ in my Vista machine and ran the command for KeePass. Now I get the following message: "The module "KeePassBBAddIn.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8007005. For more information about this problem, search online using the error code as a search term."

I ran a search and from what I saw online, I think perhaps Vista is preventing Visual C++ from communicating? How do I enable it? Any ideas anyone?

8007005 is "Access Denied". Run as Administrator maybe?

Bingo! I ran the cmd as an Administrator and loaded it no problem. I could then see the 3rd Party add-in in the Desktop Manager.

Once I used the "Configure Add-Ins" to browse to my desktop version and ran a sync I didn't see the file on my BB. So I used the Media Manager to transfer it over. But now it doesn't sync. Did I miss a step? I can't see any changes reflected yet. I'd like to use the Desktop Manager & Add-Ins option so it syncs for me.

Ideas?

There won't be a "file" on the blackberry anywhere. It's loaded directly into the persistent storage and should be available immediately. Were there any errors during the sync?

This process is going to get much better but it's still a little fragile right now.

Default KeePassBB Beta 4 Now Available!! - 09-23-2007, 02:17 AM

OK folks, here it is...

--- KeePassBB Beta 4 - Build 0.4.205 - Released September 22 2007

WARNING: Do not attempt to use this release without backing up your
desktop KeePass database. Although the 2-way sync feature does NOT
delete records, there's still the outside possibility of file corruption.

* Added database/group/entry create, edit and delete functions.
* Added 2-way record level add/change synchronization with desktop.
* Added Change Database Password function.
* Added icon chooser for entries and groups.

Lots of changes so give it a good workout. I'm especially interested in performance reports. Be sure to tell me how many groups and entries you have.

Excellent application. I use MacOS, WinXP, PortableApps, Ubuntu, and Palm and its great that KeePass works on every platform. And now with your program it works on a Blackberry which I now use.

Very nice, thank you very much..

If I may be so bold, I just have one suggestion for a future option. I have a couple of hundred entries and I can never remember what group or where the entries are. If possible a search/find option would be nice.

Thanks again.

Just downloaded and installed BETA 4. Will try to break it and report back.

Thanks again for the good work.

Reminder to others: please donate to this project if you like this application. Remy posted a link earlier in the thread.

I have installed the new version but am still unable to load from my persistent store. Which means that the sync is still not working and I am having to manually load the KeePass database from my PC to my BB.

When I sync I get the following message when it tries to runn 3rd party application support: "Error in KeePassBBAddInImpl No file is configured for synchronization"

Not sure why this error is coming up because I have gone through the steps of Configuring Add-Ins and browsing to where my KeePass file is on my desktop.

Any ideas?

Did you also report this on the sourceforge site? If you're not the same person...

If you feel comfortable using the registry editor, can you check this key and see what it says?

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{15CA5DCD-15C9-4A04-A4AC-55E87A45075A}\FileDefaults

There should be an entry called "CurrentFile" which is where the file pathname is stored when you select your database file from the "Configure" button.

Excellent stuff!!

Couple of things I noticed:

I have 200 entries and it takes 7 seconds to return to the list from 'View/Edit Entry' mode.

'Choose Icon' causes an error now and then (got an 'Uncaught exception: Index -1 >= 65' and 'Uncaught exception: close() called when not displayed.' )

Closing the application throws a 'NullPointerException'.

Everything else looks great.

Thanks

Yeah, the 7 seconds is the save of the database. Even if you don't make changes, the Last Access time is written. I think I'm going to change how that is done. Maybe saving when the app closes rather than when the entry screen closes.

I'll look at the other 2 errors. Does the NullPointerException always happen or only sometimes?

Yes, it seems the NullPointerException happens whenever closing the app.

As for the '7 second' delay, I think you might be right that it would be better to save the data when the app is closed.

However folks might not mind a delay when they are changing data - just no delay when viewing only. For example write the data immediately when a change is made, but if someone is viewing only, then the save at the end would update the 'last access'. That way if the machine freezes while KeePassBB is open you would only lose the 'last access' .

Just a thought.

Thanks

I also notice the 7 second lag. I'd support the save upon the exit from the app.

You got it. Just moved up from beta2 to beta4 and really like the improvements. Group deletion seems to have issues though.

Deleted 2 groups on the desktop, synced, and then proceeded to delete the same groups (which still exist per the readme) from the device:
(1) Set for save on exit: deleted one group with no issue. On deletion of second group, KeepassBB threw an "uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException"
(2) Set for save on exit: deleted one group. On exit, KeepassBB threw a "group serialize"
(3) Set for save after every change: deleted one group. KeepassBB threw an exception.

any work on pasting the password from somewhere to open the database? My pw is long and cryptic and not bad for typing on computer but on bb is painful. would be easier since I have saved on my BB I could copy it and then paste in there.

What happens if/when KeePass V2 is released (currently in Alpha, right?)?

Does the Blackberry port have to start all over again, or is V2 support expected to be an 'enhancement'. I realise, of course, thet *is* no V2 that should be used in anger today anyway

I'm going to start looking at v2 in a few weeks. My code is pretty well modularized so I'm hoping for an "enhancement". We'll see.

Hi Remy,

Here are my brief thoughts on 0.4.425.

When I first downloaded (after uninstalling previous version), upon running got error: "Persistent database not signed with the proper key." Perhaps just the "first log in" type of thing.

Next, love the search, accessed through the options. May have been there before, but I just noticed it.

No additional thoughts right now. As always, I'll keep playing with it to try to break it.

Thanks!

The "proper key" message is expected after a new version install because I'm still changing things in the background. Shouldn't happen again.

You can search just by typing at the tree screen as well. You don't have to use the menu.

Folks, there's a bug in the synchronbization code that is preventing device backups from working. If you encounter this problem, you can do an advanced backup and select everything EXCEPT KeePassBBDatabaseObject in the right list box. I'm working on the fix now.

Default What about Key Files? - 10-05-2007, 03:26 PM

Hello,

I'm a late-comer to this discussion as I only found the application today. Thank You VERY much for your dedication to this project. I run KeePass Portable from a USB drive with a TrueCrypt Volume. I keep the key file on my TrueCrypt volume so that it is impossible to even open the database without mounting and decrypting the drive.

I have copied the database onto my SD card, browsed to the file and supplied the password; however, I am getting a database corrupt message. Is this because the BB version does not support keyfile AND password authorization or am I simply doing something wrong?

I installed the application through the desktop and everything seemed to go well. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Again for taking on this project

Edit: I copied the DB to another db without a key file and it opens fine. It occurs to me after the fact that I'll just store the whole db on the encrypted volume on the USB so I won't need the keyfile (I guess it's kind of redundant anyway ). That solves my issue but others may like to use just the key or a combo of both...Thanks!
