Some more trial/error testing. It depends on how I exited VR+ the last time. If I always use escape or menu->close to exit the app it works from the convenience key the next time around. If I use the red "end call" key, it does not.
I'm not sure what the red "end call" key does for VR+

I just tested it on my 8300: launched with the left convenience key and set to automatically record on startup. It worked as expected.
Sorry.

Oh, that's because the red "end call" key doesn't really close the application, it just shows the home screen, i.e. sends the application to the background. When you think you're launching it again, you're not. You're just bringing it up again. That's why it won't start recording.

If I don't have the blackberry plan (no internet, email) how would I convert the file saved to mp3? Also, how well would it record if I left it on a table to record a discussion or lecture at school?
TIA-

Without a data plan, you would have to transfer the files to your PC via USB and convert them. Not very convenient.
The recording range certainly is good enough to pick a conversation around a table. I don't know about someone speaking at a lecture (more distant), though. You can always download a trial version of the program and test it yourself.

Dear users,
We are glad to announce that VR+ was updated and improved with a lot of functionality!
VR+: Record, Playback & E-mail Voice Memo version 2.3.0 features:
- Record, Stop, Pause and Play - all conveniently arranged. Execute any of the commands without going to the menu. Start recording at the application startup.
- New! iDictate transcription. A voice memo can be transcribed into a text and e-mailed to you within minutes (depending on the length of the voice file). To use iDictate service you should sign up at iDictate
- Email the recordings in MP3 or as an URL for playing back on the PC or mobile.
- Allocate memory for the recordings. Select Phone/Card memory to store the recordings.
- Free online storage. Store recordings in an online archive and share links with friends.
- BlackBerry Address Book support. Compose a message with VR+ and send it to anybody from Address Book.
Compatible with all 4.2 and 4.3 OS devices.
If you have any questions, comments or wishes you are welcome to post the here.
Best regards,
Irene Collins

Dear SHAPE customers,
Another great update for VR+ v. 2.4.0 released!
All users after registration get unlimited disc space in the Online Storage and a unique URL which can be used for inviting audience to their public page.
Now users of VR+ can record their own podcasts and share them with friends. Users can upload recordings to the Online Storage and make them public with "Make Public" option.
Sharing recordings between friends in social networks was added. At the moment VR+ service supports FaceBook, MySpace, and Twitter.
Here is a podcast recorded with the VR+ v.2.4.0 containing the information about the new update!
Listen, enjoy, record your own, share it in FaceBook, MySpace, and Twitter.
You can update at Software for PDA and mobiles: MSN/Live Messenger, Yahoo!, AIM/iChat, ICQ, MySpace, Jabber, LCS, Sametime, Oracle, Reuters, Skype or OTA at wap.shapeservices.com
You are also welcome to post your opinions about the new functionality in this thread.
Thanks and regards,
Irene

Irene, I wrote about the new VR+ plus at BerryReview. The new "social" features are not working.
I also submitted a support request yesterday and had no reply yet. Can anyone here report success in posting recordings to Twitter or Facebook?

Dear Luciano,
Thank for the review and your report.
Let me outline how posting to social networks works.
When you post to FaceBook, the post gets to the mini-feed and after passing SPAM control the post gets to your friends news feed.
In Twitter the post occurs as a mailing to your friends, our developers are working to make the post to get right to the home page.

The new version 2.4.5 is released!
New social network was added. You can now post your voice messages to Blogger.
User interface was modified: "Share" option, "Settings" menu, new joystick functionality, ability to "Discard" a recording.
Don't forget to listen to the podcast about the update at https://vr.shapeservices.com/play.ph... edd8cca5e29a8

I am also new to VR+ and am having a terrible time posting to my blog. It think there may need to be some clarification on what "Blog name" refers to in the Settings/Social Networks/Blogger. Is that the URL, the title of the Blog, or what. I have tried every option conceivable and still can't upload a recording to my blog. I keep getting an error message that says, "Error 84 Desc: Invalid blog name". And yes, you have to be patient with tech support. I sent my first request for help from my blackberry under "Support Request". Five days passed so I sent another request to support (at)shaperservices.com. Its been two day now and no reply. I am eager to get a response and hopefully be back here to share how this issue got resolved to this forum. On the other hand, any one out there who had this same problem and resolved it? I love to know.

Let me point you attention that VR+ was updates to v. 2.4.7 that is more reliable because of the bug fixes that were made:
* You are now able to continue the recording correctly even if it consists of more than 2 parts.
* The voice recording pauses when the incoming call occurs, if the call is accepted the recording stops.
* The latest updated recordings appear on the top of the list.
* File name format was changed to yyyy-mm-dd_hh_mm_ss according to users' suggestions
Update your VR+ at VR+: Voice Recorder :: BlackBerry :: Download

This is a problem I've had with the two most recent updates. Each time I've been in touch with support. The suggestions they originally gave me, to clear my browser cache folder, didnt' work. I had to delete the program from my device and then reinstall the updated version. No problems thereafter. They just sent me an email today indicating that they're looking into the problem.
all in all, GREAT program.

Not enough space... -
09-02-2008, 10:42 PM
I just purchased the product online. Trying to install the App OTA (did it successfully before but uninstalled the app when I had other issues). I am getting a message stating "Insufficient space for application". Where do I go and give the more space/delete other stuff?

cmonsanto, this message occurs when there is no enogh space on your device, so the application cannot be downloaded. You can start the Desktop Manager and delete some apps or either on the BlackBerry go to Settings -> Advanced Options -> Applications, select the apps you want to delete and you will have some free space. You can also check maybe you have a lot of saved pictures, music, etc.

Bip48, SHAPE Services offers VR+ full functionality free for 7 days as a trial. Our application allows you to send your recordings via email to your PC or upload them to the online storage and then downloading to the PC in mp3 format.
If you want to use VR+ for a lifetime, you are required to purchase a license. This can be done at our site.

I got the same thing and it didn't matter how much I deleted--or so it seemed. I couldn't get the VR+ to work until I added a micro sd card.
And then it worked fine for me. But I guess it must have been one of the first things I installed when I got my Blackberry Curve a couple months ago. Yesterday I got a notice that the trial period had ended, and I uninstalled it. Then I discovered that when I went into "record voice note", the only option was "send as mms". No save, no send as e-mail.
It seems like there has to be *some* way to save quick recordings on my Blackberry, but I haven't found it yet. My husband is pretty convinced that Blackberry is teh suck, and I'd really like to prove him wrong. :p But more and more, I'm finding that he can do stuff on his T-Mobile Dash that I can't do on my BB Curve. :(

Hi SHAPE
I'm a Palm user looking to upgrade to BB Bold. I've come to rely on CallRec for Palm OS and the WindowsMobile devices have Vito AudioNotes which provides this functionality. Has your product overcome the technical reasons yet? Is it capable of making voice recordings on the BB Bold? I'd like to make the BB choice, but not without this functionality!

Hello BBmaybe,
VR+ can record your voice as a Dictaphone. You can learn more about the variaty of VR+ functions at https://vr.shapeservices.com/about.php
We still do not support call recording as it interferes with legal questions. When this becomes available we will add it.

Re: Version 2.5.2
1. The inability to record via Bluetooth is a real drawback. The free Blackberry Voice Notes app that came with my Bold will do that. I don't want to have to hold my Bold near my face to get a decent recording.
2. The inability to play via Bluetooth is also a drawback.
3. By default, VR+ should save to the card instead of built-in memory.
4. Inability to record a phone call is NOT a legal issue. This concern is resolved by simply turning off that feature by default and requiring an acknowledgment (similar to the license acknowledgment users are forced to agree to upon installation) that recording phone calls MIGHT be illegal in the user's jurisdiction and that the user assumes that risk. Other devices might not have the horsepower to record a call, but my Bold certianly does. Leaving out this feature is a weaka~~ copout.

Palm OS software (forgot the name) on my old Treo 650 recorded phone calls. I miss that feature. I own VR+ and their tech support said it is not possible on the BB.

VR+ - recording in the background -

I understand VR+ can record in the background. Does it continue to record when the screen turns off, the way CallRec on Treo does?
