Hello,

Yes, the trial period is four days. Honestly nobody has really complained about it before so I don't really see any reason to change it. We feel that four days is a pretty good time period to see how the app. works and what it offers and it seems that most people agree.

I don't really want to get into a contest on the forums to justify why people should, for example, use BBSmart Email Viewer over the others. That's for you to decide. It's not as if you can't trial them out to see what you like. Similarly I wouldn't recommend taking much stock in what Internet polls have to say - the number of "0-5 post" voters in this poll should serve as the warning indicator for that.

At the end of the day, use this thread for what it was intended please. Come in here, vote for what you use and say why you use it. Don't use it as an opportunity to draw developers and users into a big argument to justify their choices. Nobody wants that. And we're not going down that road again.

What I found is that BMail is competitive, and that the developers are actively engaged in making it more so. They just added the ability to put an image in the background, based on user input.

There has been much ado about things like email signatures and the ability to put email into calendar appointments. BMail doesn't add a signature, and it does put email into calendar appointments.

The next question is: does BBSmart give you reasonable time to try it out? Apparently, the trial period is 4 days. EZainny, please feel free to jump in to correct this if it is wrong.

4 days is way below standard. The question is, why such a short period?

EZainny?

Just turn if off then? Shouldn't be a big issue.

Tony
I guess you don't understand...the point is that the user looks like an idiot sending his or her corporate emails with this spam signature at the bottom. The option shouldn't be there to begin with; there's really no defense of it. The user just better be fortunate and see one of the emails sent from the BB.

I'm not even attacking the product. I like the software but a viewer of incoming mail altering the content of outgoing mail should be a big deal to most people...it definitely is to me.

Please stay on topic. I will continue to delete posts in this thread that are not topical of "Which is your favorite, and why".

With all due respect, the pros should be considered along with the cons. It doesn't seem off topic to me to consider both aspects of the software. The reason I posted the (one) negative thing I didn't like about the viewer is because it would assist others. It's entirely possible that there's something I'm missing here though.
JSanders, obviously you have the authority to delete any posts for what reason you seem necessary. It just seems as though it wasn't really "off-topic" especially on comparison to other threads I see on here where a completely new topic may be veered into.

My thought is that the other email viewer threads all turned into a free for all battle of personalities rather than what works well. I asked early on in the thread to please keep it on topic, along with a couple other users. It is absurd we can't have one thread of this without yet more attacks on the one or the other.

So, I read your earlier post, and I believe your point had already been made. I am a reasonable person (some moments), I will re-read and restore if I am wrong.

But, now, yet again, we can't just have a good up and up prefernence thread for debating the minutia of now the deletions.

That's reasonable to me. Thanks for the response.

Default Empower versus BBSmart - 08-22-2007, 01:26 PM

After trying both Empower and BBSmart, I don't see much difference. Neither one displays the email the way it was originally written. Both of them get rid of the ridiculously long URL's. Both have configurable colors.

The signature that Empower appended to my emails was annoying. Especially, since I was unaware of it at first. I don't necessarily want all my contacts to know I'm using a BlackBerry. It took me a while to find the "Advanced Options" and turn that signature off.

I haven't had any scrolling issues with Empower or BBSmart. Although, clicking on some links in either product will cause the BB to hang. That is probably a browser issue.

I just received an email containing links to files (<file://......). Although, Empower shortens the links starting with (<http://.....), it does not do anything with links to files! Fortunately, very few emails contain links to files.

You can download it at Handango.com.

Edit... well maybe not. I don't see it there. Try crackberry.com maybe.

BB Smart is the best, IMHO. I'd give a speed edge to Empower, but it's not significant. BB Smart's ability to inject emails into the calendar is an awesome feature.

I'm going with Empower. I just downloaded it last week, and I don't have the signature issue. Maybe its been taken out. There is no sign of any signature on any emails I send.

The BBSmart trial period was too short. I know I'm not supposed to post negatives on this thread, but that is the true reason why I'm going with empower. Sorry.

I prefer the overall look/formatting of BBSmart's viewer, but Empower Pro is faster and handles images better...enough that I've switched for now to Empower Pro. I do own BBSmart for both mine and my wife's Pearls, and will likely switch back if the next release of BBSmart provides better speed and graphics handling.

I think the next OS upgrade (4.5?) is supposed to have HTML email reading built-in, among other things. At least that's what the email to BES customers said.

Hello - does anyone know how to get rid of one of those trial email software?

I downloaded BBSmart and the trial has expired, but they only give the option of buying or activating it. I do not want to do either right now, and just set my email back to the default on my blackberry.

help!

Options > Advanced Options > Applications
Highlight the App, Click Menu Button, choose Delete.

(For future reference, it's bad form to resurrect 8 month old dead threads.)
