Nice and simple, I like it.

Couple suggestions:

1. Let the scroll ball scroll down to play/pause, shuffle and repeat so they can easily be selected (so you don't have to remember shortcut keys).

2. Album art showing like on native player.

EDIT: I see that you can save playlists, sweet.

I made a play list, and turned on shuffle, but it only shuffles at the end of a song. If I press one of the shortcut buttons to skip to the next track, it just goes in order.

Another thing that's odd is that I'm using headphones, and the music is playing in them fine. But, when i get an email, all sound (the music and email notification) switches from the headphones to the BB external speaker for the duration of the email notification sound. This doesn't happen with the native player or dollars5 one.

Otherwise, I'm loving this thing. It's quick and easy to use. Plus FREE!

I had the sound go out on me twice. Once it happened right after a bunch of emails came in, the other time, nothing special happened, it just went out when it went to the next song. Nothing would fix it except loading another playlist or reloading the present playlist. Even a reset had no effect. It wasn't the headphones, b/c I was able to switch to the native player, and it worked fine.

Really? You are able to listen to music via BT on your Pearl with this program? That would be HUGE.

Yeah I was shocked when it started playing on my bluetooth.... Hopefully that was meant to be not an error.

It looks very nice. Unfortunately, all my music is AAC, which works on the built in media player but is not seen by XPlayer.

How do I navigate to the volume? Also, can we get an option to "remove" a song w/o having to clear the whole list? That's the 2 main add in's I'd like to see. How many play list can you have?
btw..thx

Hello,

1. To change the volume please use + and - on the right side of the device
2. To remove one file from list use backspace (delete)

Tried the OTA download. Said it updated to .94 but I get an uncaught exception when I run it. The zip version says .93 still.

I think I'm removing this until it's a little more refined. I can't afford to have it tank my BB right now.

m4a's are working fine now, but it's still doing the thing where when I've got shuffle on and I try to skip a song, it just goes to the next song on the list rather than shuffling to a random song.

It's looking better all the time. I like the "To background" option to go to the BB main screen but keep the music playing. m4a's now play; the "n" key works as advertised, but "p" doesn't do anything.

Any plans to allow inclusion of all subfolders when selecting a folder (like the native BB player allows)? That way I could select the top level folder and have the player shuffle through the songs in all my folders without having to add 20+ subfolders in a playlist.

All I know is that I can now listen to my music through my BT headset. Doesn't sound like complete stereo, but good enough for me. Nice job XXX.

PS - if you have a paypal account I'd be willing to make a donation for using this software. You've put a lot of time into it and seem very receptive to suggestions. Nothing wrong with getting paid for your efforts, especially when the outcome is such a nice piece of software.

People using bluetooth with this player: I know it's not stereo, but has anyone got music playing in mono to both ears on a stereo bluetooth headset?

Hey, nice work with the xPlayer! Its going in the right direction. A few things... can you make it add all files in all sub directories? I added the folder /SDCARD/ and it just added files in /SDCARD/* and not the subfolders of it. Not really a big deal, but would be nice.

Also, I noticed when I started playing a song it just decided to stop playing audio, but the track was advancing, with no sound. I paused it, then hit play and it worked again. I can't always repeat this, but its probably just a small bug.

Is there a way to have an option for setting Buffers? Winamp was great for caching a big portion of song, and with slow read times on some of the microSD cards, it might be really helpful.

Again, thanks for this! been looking for a good alternative from the built in media player! keep up the good work!

Ah, I see what the problem is with the sound not coming through... if you hit pause, the song pauses, but the scroll and time still advance, even though the song picks right back up at the right place.

One more suggestion (for now)...

add id3 tag reading, and possibly a sort feature.

I'm a bit late onto this but will try it out ASAP, I'm hoping it has a better music sort then the current 8800 player, as when i sync the music to the SDCard it sync in folders and the BB8800 limits the way you can use folders.

I'll post any observations I make.

-----------------------------------
Update
  • OK my first comment is that the xplayer has the same restriction on adding folders as the standard 8800 music player.

If you have a parent folder say "music" with sub folders under that (containing your music) you can't select the "music" folder to add all the music in the sub folders.

Can this be changed? Opps already been suggested, It would pay to read them ALL properly, sorry, but still a excellent idea.

  • Can you add the function to play exisitng m3u playlists? I sync the 8800 with a playlist from WMP then copy that playlist over to the BB so I have pre-programed m3u playlists, All i do then is select the m3u list on the BB (existing BB media player) and bop away.

Two observations:

1. The +/- keys don't control the volume for me over the external speaker (I assume that it should - but maybe only on wired headphones?).
2. I can't use my bluetooth headphones (not that I expected this yet).

Hi again,

I have a bug report, every time i make or receive a call and exit the phone app xPlayer appears on the screen. I exit xPlayer then go back into the phone make a call close the phone app and xPlayer opens again. It doesn't happen if you go into and exit the phone program itself but only when your are in actual call then exit.

Disregard #1 - it seems to work now, for whatever reason.

Also, thanks for putting so much effort into this and still keeping it free! I'd encourage you to at least make it donation-ware.
