While playing back in backgroud mode the 8800 Crashed, I just spoke to someone that sent a SMS at the time of the crash so I'll do some testing.
This is the first time the 8800 has crashed but it maybe coincidental.
An SMS or Email Alert courses the BB to reset during background playback I just tested it 3 times, please let me know if you need any more info. At 1st it was a SMS so i thought i'd test it with an email and yes it crashed it as well. So it looks like any alert kills it, maybe it can't play the music and the alert at the same time.
I also tested the factory media player and the fault is not there.
Sorry

Downloading again for more info....... (OTA still reads 0.95 on download page).
Well I'll be, I cant replicate the fault again, have you changed the beta version since 5-Sept?? as I'm not sure what it was back then.
I have tried an SMS, email & call during background playback with no issues, light on/off. I'm on BES with only a couple of 3rd party apps installed.
Last time it crashed every time without fail, I tried hard/soft resets and the problem was still there but now nothing.
I'll continue to use it over the weekend and let you know on Monday.

FANTASTIC!!
This player is what we're waiting for.
In fact, it can even play a full-screen video rotated by 90 degrees, if I encode it in 260x240 and rotate it using a suitable program (like VirtualDub).
Just a couple of things:
1) the screen blanks out briefly at every backlight timeout interval (and sometimes it does not recover, requiring to press a key to turn it on again).
2) a slide bar for playback would be greatly appreciated, or at least the ability to go back a few seconds.
Thank you and keep up the good work.

I hget an error with the .97 beta. It says xplayer could not launch and a module could not be found. If someone is by their computer maybe they can type the exact error into this post. Great media player by the way!

This is what I get: "Error starting xplayer. Module 'xplayer_th_loader' not found"
EDIT:
What I did was delete what I had on my 'Berry and redownloaded the software. It's now working fine.

So far so good!
My wish list.....
#1.) Support Album Art
2.) Option to choose "Playlist View" or "Track Info View" (this one is why Album Art is so important. A lot of us like to look at our album covers - at least I know I do!)
3.) Have program follow current track playing in the playlist (currently in a long playlist the program does not highlight follow the current playing track in the long list)
4.) More attractive UI (would like a more glossy looking UI looking more like the current BB media player, but with an xPlayer unique look)
5.) Support for Windows Media Player Playlists, or M3U playlists (or both!)
I've only used the pogram for a few hours, but this is my current wish list so far!
Great job and thanks!

D/l .97, works great! On video and MP3's, and even faster loading. Thx
The best option I would like, is the ability to organize playlist by Artist or by Alphabet.

Just installed the .97 and am having some problems. I can add songs one at a time but with I select a folder I can move to my SD card and them to the folder but when I select it I get a white screen with "xFile - Open folder" at the top and when I hit the track ball (8800) I get an uncaught exception: java lang.NullPointerException error. Any help? By the way, I removed all program and modules before I re-installed the new version.

Interesting. When I connected to my desktop manager to install the new themes, it wanted to remove X-Player and associated components marking them as "unrecognized". Any way to get the new themes OTA?

You don't need to uninstall software,
just install only theme (alx + cod in zip)

No can do. The desktop manager does not give you a choice not to remove the program and you can't install anything until you have done the un-install. Maybe could un-install the program, install the theme, and then OTA the program.

Is it possible to have a theme that makes it easy to see which track is being played? The Default theme uses blue for current, black for the rest, and it's not easy to see it. The Gray At Night theme makes it stand out better, but then it's not as easy to read the name.
I think making the current file bold or inverted would be better than changing its colour.
Can you make these themes also apply to xFile? It's very hard to see what's been selected.

I can't remember what I've requested by email, so you may already have these on your list. Could we please have some sorting options?
- Alphabetic by filename (I think it does this now)
- Alphabetic by track name (in case file names contain track numbers)
- By track number (in case file names don't contain track numbers)
- By date (to help find recent additions)
- By size (to help find the big ones)
- Manual sort (so we can change it around how we like)
Also, a search function.
And playlist folders, so I can categorise them.
In an email I mentioned that I would like to be able to specify the starting and ending point of any track. Would anyone else find that useful? You could use it to play just a portion of a track, and it would be useful with tracks that have too much silence at the start or end, or if you only want to listen to part of it. No idea if the Blackberry OS would allow this.
Support for the headset button to pause playing.

Another suggestion:
When adding files to the playlist, if I press Space to mark a single track, it would be useful if the cursor moved down one track after marking the file. That would make it faster to mark several sequential files.

I very much second these requests. PLUS:
- a way to fast forward / rew inside a track. That function needs to somehow allow to jump in big leaps but also in very fine steps (like a few seconds back if you just want to listen to something you overheard in a speach again). That would make my day

Another suggestion: a configurable limit to the number of times it will repeat in repeat mode. I'm concerned that I might leave it running, and it'll just keep playing till the battery goes flat.
Zero repeats could repeat forever, for those who want that.

Did anyone have problems with the Service Book after uninstalling the player via Application Loader?
It seems that the procedure wiped my Service Book and the Browser configuration. I had to re-register the BB to the carrier's network to have those entries restored. Of course, it may just be a general uninstallation issue unrelated to this app.
I wonder why does the BB need to wipe all application data when uninstalling something.
Goodbye,

I thought it was necessary before installing a new release. Can it be installed over the previous one?
Also, I'm waiting for the implementation of a slide bar to navigate inside clips. Without that feature, a media player is unsuited to my needs.
Bye.
