Need fast scrolling, error in Help -
11-15-2007, 12:31 AM
I have a playlist with 60 or 70 items in it. I find that scrolling to the top or bottom takes a long time - it takes 15 rolls of the ball to get there.
Could we please have a faster way of doing this? E.g. alt-scroll, or scrolling sideways like when we're adding files?
I just discovered we have shortcuts to get to the top (T) and bottom (B), but that doesn't help me get to the middle. The help lists these shortcuts as being two of the many shortcuts available to play the next or previous tracks, so at least that should be fixed.

Ff/rw -
12-12-2007, 04:30 PM
Does anyone know how to fast forward and rewind a track using x-player? It is a nice little player with good basic functionality including using the volume keys and mute button like the native player (see Dollars5 it can be done so much for that excuse). The only thing that cripples this app for me is the absence of a FF and RW function that I use frequently.
If it is not possible then this is a request to the developers to add the functionality....I would pay a few duckets for this app if you added that feature...not that I mind it being free but I suspect that plans are to make this app a profitable product at some point. No FF/RW no duckets though!!!
Also, one other bug that I noticed (maybe not a bug but a problem) when you select a root folder that has nested folders underneath only searches for files in the immediate subfolder not the nested subfolders beyond that for media files. I have a very complex directory structure, largely due to the way you must navigate media using the native media player but if the "Include Subfolders" option actually looked in all subfolders that would be nice as well...although not a deal breaker for my duckets!!!

I don't think there's any support for this. If there is then I'd really like to know how to do it too.
I know it's technically possible, because Dollars5's multiPlay can do it. However, it does it in an odd way. Instead of being able to simply scroll forward or backward, you have to click on the slider, slide it to where you want, then click it again. Then it starts playing at that point. It's a bit fiddly if you need to move around several times to find a particular place in a track.
What I'd also like is to be able to save a start and end position for each track in the playlist. This would be useful for those tracks that have unwanted stuff at the start or end (e.g. long applause, spoken introductions, etc).

I just found this player and I do like it. I also have a few suggestions for you to consider.
1. Bookmarks. I listen to a lot of audio books and Old Time Radio shows and would love the ability to bookmark my spot. That way I could listen to other items or if I need to reset, I could still find my place easily. I would love to also bookmark movies. In my mp3 player, that I rarely use anymore, I have 10 bookmarks available.
2. I would like to be able to use the volume buttons on the side of my Peal to adjust the volume when the program is running the in background.
3. If the button on the top of the Pearl could pause like in the native player, it would be wonderful. I would like this to also work when the player is in the background.
4. I know this has been mentioned several times, but the ability to fast forward and reverse is really needed for my purposes.
Thank you so much for this wonderful program.

I found out I didn't have the most recent release. I got the program via OTA and that is still just a beta version. I found on the website, that I could download and install via the DM ver 1.0.
With version 1.0, when trying to watch the video, the picture will not stay on. I think it lasts about 2 minutes. That is time I have set for my screen to go off. If I hit any key, the picture will come back on, only to go off again after about 2 minutes.
The 1.0 version does have the hold button feature! Neat!

Can't remove -
01-23-2008, 07:04 PM
Okay, I installed the application using PocketMac and the application won't run. Worst part of all is that I can't remove the application now. There is no option to delete it on the phone and if I try to remove it using PocketMac it fails. How can I make it go away?

Also, in the Settings there's a misspelling - it says "Allow dublicate files".
I still find xFile slow to get into a folder with a lot (100) of files.
Is there a list of changes for this version somewhere?

Please in your BlackBerry go to Options -> Advanced Options -> Applications -> xPlayer. Push the Menu button and select "Delete".
We are sorry that xPlayer didn't work for you. Is there anything I can assist you with?
You can download the latest version 1.0 from our web-site for free and use either a USB cradle, Bluetooth or IrDA connection to send installation from PC to your BlackBerry
xPlayer :: BlackBerry :: Download
or download over-the-air from wap.shapeservices.com.

New user comments - xPlayer v1.0 on T-Mobile Blackberry 8320 -
02-13-2008, 03:33 PM
VERY pleased with this program!
Also FYI have had good experience with shapeservices (I bought their VNC+ program and it and the company have been good news.)
I like the lightweight, no-nonsense user interface.
Anyway, my wish list:
1. Please add in-file navigation --- some kind of fast-forward fast-reverse and possibly a way to select position within a file (perhaps by hour:minute:second, or by % of file size). I often play *very* long MP3 files (podcast type material), sometimes >1 hour at a time, and fast navigation within a file is much more important to me than navigation among files. Even better would be to remember the place within a file where playing last stopped or was interrupted, because sometimes I need to turn off blackberry (while in airplane) and with very long MP3 playback, it is very handy to restore playing location, either directly or some other way.
2. Would be great to have some kind of streaming audio ( http://abc.com:8000/def.m3u or http://abc.com:8000/def.pls) capability (and for this, the option to connect via direct TCP/IP or via BIS/BES, etc.) - now that blackberry has WiFi fairly high streaming audio encoding rates might be compatible.
3. A "hide" function so xplayer can continue operating while I look at/handle incoming e-mail.
Thank you again!

Do you have the issue where the counter remains on 0:00? I do and I'm not that pleased. The beta version was ok.

I'd really like that too, it's a feature that's in virtually every player. But that fact that it isn't in this player or the standard player makes me wonder if the API even allows it.
The ability to remember the track position would be great too. If the above is possible then I don't see why this wouldn't be.

I just press the red phone button while it's playing and it keeps running while I do other things.

I could not get it to work with my Moto S9 Bluetooth headphones. Silence. I switched to the BB Media Player and they worked. I have removed Xplayer for the moment.

Error coding for Chinese characters in the song name -
02-14-2008, 01:01 AM
Some Chinese song names are incorrectly displayed. See the attached jpg, No. 7 to No. 17 include Chinese characters in the song names but only No. 16 and No. 17 can be displayed correctly.

I just downloaded and installed xplayer. I have a couple of videos formatted for 320 X 240. When I play them in xplayer, they do not play full screen. They use only slightly more of the screen than the default media player.
They play fine full-screen when I use MediaPlayer by Dollars5.
Any idea why it's not working?

The issue is not quite clear. There might be a reason that the video file was converted for the BlackBerry incorrectly. I can suggest you to use BlackBerry video converter.
Could you please denote some more information. What mobile device are you using? How other files are played? If you try to use BlackBerry video converter for the files that are not played full screen, please inform how they are played after the converter. Thanks.

I'll do some more experimenting. I'm pretty sure they were converted with BlackBerry video converter.
The device is an 8800 with OS 4.2.1.79.
The video size was formatted for 320X240.

I would guess that they are in no hurry as its a free product and XM (just came out)/mediaPlayer/BerryTunes can do this already. Not saying that they won't just that there is little incentive.

Open Internet Browser. Click "BB button" (Left of Trackball). Select "Go To". Type in "http://wap.shapeservices.com/blackberry/index.php". Scroll down. Click on "More Software...". Now you are on page 2. Scroll down to second listing on this page, past DeskFinder, and you will see XPlayer. Click "Download". Click "Save", else click "Yes" to overwrite existing version.

First, did you reboot after recieving the error? 90% of all errors can be fixed by soft reboot (ALT+Shift+Del) or battery pull.
Second, did you overwrite a previous version or is this a fresh install? If so, try and uninstall and install from OTA. If issue persists then install via DM.

Hello,
You would need to edit security permissions on your Blackberry.
1. Open Options/Security/Application Permissions
2. Select xPlayer
3. Select Edit Permissions from the menu
4. Configure the Security Permissions to "Allow" for all categories.
5. Save the changes
Then please try to launch xPlayer once more.

Sorta backfired a bit, eh?

(Sorry, had to)
Anything that is WAP or OTA is for BlackBerry viewing/installation only. Most pages that have OTA links on a WAP page will autodetect what phone/firmware you have so you don't install an incorrect version.

Hello am_bb8800,
Let me point your attention that xPlayer supports the following audio and video formats: mp3, m4a, avi, mp4, 3gp, wma, amr, mid, wav.
The m4v file format is just not supported. Please try to convert your file to another format using any converter application.
BR,
Irene

Could you add the ability to read wpl (windows playlist) files? It would allow us to sync with windows media player.
