Default Google Maps GPS - 08-29-2007, 03:16 PM

How does the GPS work for other users with Google Maps? Looking at an earlier thread, it seems like most Blackerry users have that installed.

I always get errors about "the signal being too weak to pinpoint location". I can use the program fine to get normal directions however. Even though GPS is enabled on my device it never seems to work! Any ideas??

Do you have a Bluetooth GPS puck? The internal GPS is disabled on Verizon devices.

You're kidding me. Man, US carriers just plain suck - no wonder we're the laughing stock of the cellphone world...

Come to the UK. Where a typical GPRS package is about $16/month for about 6MB throughput with each additional MB costing $4.. Where iTunes songs cost 50% more than the US and the new released (in the UK) iTunes videos are double the price!

You never had it so good.

When I go into my options for GPS it says its "enabled".

Are you telling me that even if it says this, its still disabled because I have Verizon?

Wow, what a rip! Maybe I'll do a google search to see if there is indeed some hack to turn it on. It was advertised being one of the features for this phone!

It has been discussed here ad nauseum. It is absolutely NOT possible to turn on the internal GPS on the verizon 8830. It is hard coded to the device and will not work until Verizon turns it on. I wish I had better news but thought I'd save you the time and trouble.
