Default A phone utility we'd love to see! - 09-02-2007, 02:09 PM

Let's face it: BB users are busy people, so although this request is not "strictly" BB, I'll ask nevertheless. I want a utility that allows me to hit an option when there's an incoming call which says to the caller, in effect, "Please hold...I'm in a meeting, let me get to a quite place; don't go away", and allows me to walk out of a meeting, famiily gathering, movie, etc, get to a quite place and take the call. This way, I don't have to desperately "whisper" into the phone like "hold on, lemme take this elasewhere", and have an entire meeting looking at me like I just did something horrible.

Any such utility available?

Many thanks in advance...

Yes, there is. Voicemail.

I all honestly that does sound like a great idea.

Touche, Jeremy; good point!! Problem is, some calls you DO want to take, and not go into voicemail. That's why I want the utility.

I believe there is one that's available on an Ericsson phone....seems like a simple enough utility, but I'd pay for it.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

That sounds like a interesting utility though I can't personally see myself using it. I usually just let them go to voicemail.

Do you think people will hang on when you get to a quiet place? I guess most would. Though sometimes I want to just leave a voicemail if I knew the person was in a meeting.

Like a lot of other great software / services. grandcentral does not work in canada (doesn't allow you to pick any canadian area codes as phone numbers, in other words).

what we need is an auto sms app, this app will at certain times auto reply with an sms to the caller. This app existis for the Palm OS, i used to use it all the time when I am in meetings, I would activate the auto sms function and all my callers would receive an sms customized with their name (pulled form the address book) and details that I filled in when I first installed the app on my 700p (R.I.P)

Although this app doesn't make use of customized names, it is fairly customizable: * Phones*by*“I’m Busy” SMS & Email AutoResponder

GT5L, I'd live with your suggestion as a second alternative. However, it must be easy to develop an application that "takes" the call, tells the caller to hang on for half a minute.

Klotar, I really like the I'm busy app: the issue is that it auto-repsonds only to emails and sms (although that's great value in itself) and not to phone calls.

Along the same lines guy's - I like the idea of this application, but until it is developed, is there a way of uploading a professional "Voice Mail" stating a message of our choosing?

Ever forget to put the BB on "Phone Only" only to awaken in the middle of the night to incoming emails or SMS messages? How about an app that would let you program the time to put the BB in "phone only" automatically at night and turn back on to custom in the morning.

Woops, my bad -- I missed that. Reading too fast hehe.

My Nokia E62 had something similar, a popup box would ask if I wanted to answer, send to voicemail, or send an SMS response; and I see now that's more what you were looking for.

Perhaps it will be incorporated in the new and upcoming to-be-renamed Black and Whitelist.

Klotar, that's right, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Some Nokia phones DID / DO have that feature. Hopefully the app you're talking about will have it - it is certain to have at least ONE customer - me. I daresay it will have a lot of others too...
