I have made a rule such that in the morning, the profile will switch from "Phone only" to "Normal". But for some reason, it switches to "Loud" in the morning.

Default Registration - 09-09-2007, 09:22 AM

From the menu key, there's a registration button. But when I hit it, it asks me to enter the "key you received in the in the field below to register the program." What key? I installed OTA, it installed, did a couple of test profiles- nothing. Do I need to register it for it to work? The program does say it's active, and yes, I did save and exit after entering a new profile. Help please? TIA.

Hi there,
The version you have installed is the trial version which lasts for 1 week. When the program is available for purchase (very soon), you can purchase a copy and you will receive a registration key.

Sorry for any confusion.

Default Convince me why I would need this app - 09-11-2007, 12:53 AM

Maybe it's because I'm a noob to BBs, but I don't get what the big deal is about this application. What does it do that's so special, and what does it do that I can't accomplish via a calendar event or a task. Obviously I'm missing something here, as it seem users have been wanting an app such as this. So, what am I missing that's so special about this application? TIA.

Edit: After thinking about it, I realized when thinking "profiles", I was thinking about something along the lines of a profile in say, XP, when you can set up different profiles for different users. Is the point of this program to control the SOUNDS? E.g, mute during a meeting, then switching back to the profile before the meeting? Something along those lines? Someone enlighten me.

This controls Profiles, such as Normal, Quiet, etc.

My previous Nokia allowed me to change my Profile to, say, Quiet when I went into a movie, and choose how long it would remain in the Quiet profile.

I could set it to, say, two hours.

Now, during the movie, if someone called me, my phone would NOT ring and disturb other people in the movie theater. AND... after the movie (well, after two hours, if I set it to remain in Quiet Profile for two hours), it would change BACK to my previous Profile, which was always Normal.

With my Blackberry, I often go into a movie and change the Profile to Quiet.

When the movie ends, I often forget that I changed the profile to Quiet, and hours later, I realize my Blackberry is STILL in Quiet Profile, and when I check my phone, I find that I've missed several calls that came in after the movie ended.

That's what this program is designed to prevent, in a nutshell.

I can resist anything but temptation.

I can't download the file via OTA. I am not sure if it is with TMO network or it is because of the website.

Thanks for the explanation. It was beginning to dawn on me that this is what the application is supposed to do. I've never had this ability on any other cell phone I've had, so it's something I don't miss. I do miss the multiple alarms I was able to set on the phone I replaced (LG CU500). I'll have to think about whether this is something I need...I normally have my phone set to vibrate+ring and normally mute it at work/movies or anyplace cells might be a disturbance. Thanks again.

It now seems that the rebooting issue that i had has cleared, however i have found a problem.
I have set rules to tell the app what profile (normal profile) to use when no meeting profile is set, however, i have to enter the normal profile, edit the name and save before it will switch to the meeting profile - it will however change back to the normal profile when the meeting has finished.

Was the meeting already in progress when you created the sound profile for the event? I'll investigate this one to see if I can reproduce.

Thanks for your continued testing and support!

WCSBB no the meetings have all been created in advance of the current time.
I wondered if this was because the meetings noise profile was more restrictive, i have tried to set my "normal" profile to silent and then set the meeting profile to normal and the same thing is happening.

Also i have noticed that when the profile is changing and it sometimes sticks on loud, even when loud wasn't one of the profiles involved, now that's just weird!!

I'm using an 8820 O/S 4.2.2.124 Platform 2.4.0.5.8

what rule takes precedence? say if the times of a meeting are overlaping?
also, when the profile is switched to normal (after a rule , vibrate) it sometimes goes to loud when it is set to normal... i don't know why it does this
thanks!

Default Rule "rules" :) - 09-12-2007, 01:08 AM

I'm working on the rule precedences. The version you have basically works this way. If a "normal" (non-calendar) rule is in effect, it will stay in effect even if another rule overlaps it. However, calendar rules are special, they will "break-in" if you will and override a normal calendar rule. As for two calendar rules overlapping, the first one started wins out.

That's today.

However, a number of people have expressed the desire for a "default" or 24 hour rule. I can see some merit to that. Adding that feature will essentially allow for rule "nesting" to have smaller rules within larger ones.

So, I'd like to get a little more feedback from you if I could. Here's what the algorithm will be, illustrated with examples.

Rule1 : 24 hour (default)
Duration : 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM
Profile : Normal

Rule2 : Daytime
Duration : 6 AM - 10 PM
Profile : Loud

Rule3 : ShortRule
Duration : 3PM - 3:30PM
Profile : Vibrate

Rule4: Calendar Rule
Duration 3:15 - 3:25 PM
Profile : Off

First off, Calendar rules have the highest priority, so keep that in mind as I detail the profile transtions here
1 AM - Normal - Rule1
2 AM - Normal - Rule1
...
6 AM - Switch to Loud - Rule2
...
3 PM - Switch to Vibrate - Rule3
...
3:15 PM - Switch to Off - Rule4
...
3:25 PM - Switch to Vibrate - Back to Rule3
...
3:30 PM - Switch to Loud - Back to Rule2
...
10 PM - Switch to Normal - Back to Rule1

Basically, the idea here is, if two rules apply to the same minute in time, the rule that started LAST has priority for that time slice.

I had originally not liked the idea of rules that can cross each other, and I'm hoping that concept won't make it any more confusing.

Sincerely,
Matthew Wheaton

Personally, I like this idea. While in some ways it may seem more complex, in other ways it is simpler by virtue of the fact that less rules can be used to accomplish the same task.

If you implemented your new algorithm, users that prefer to set up rules "the existing way" can still do it that way, and users that prefer to overlap and nest rules will be able to do it "the new way". The existing way should still work by having seperate rules cover every hour of the day (rule 1 on, rule 1 off, rule 2 on, rule 2 off, etc.), essentially doing what we [i] are doing now.

Thanks for a great application.

Finally was able to download it. i am on BIS. Set up 2 rules but did not meet my need since the BB was always locked when the rule took effect. For this is a showstopper since most of the time my BB is locked. Unless i am not implementing the rules right or i missed the intended use for this app.

cheers.

Is there any way to set up a profile to extend from 10pm to 6am? when I have tried it says that the starting time must be before the ending time of the rule.

Is the only way around this to create two rules, i.e. 10pm-12am and 12:00AM - 6:00am? If so, can you set it up so that we can decide whether or not to be "notified by an audible and vibrating alert" when it is holstered/locked? I would rather it not make any noise when it cannot switch profiles. A burst of 3-4 short vibrations would be better for me.

I'm thinking this audible warning might be inconvenient in other instances, say when you are at a movie theater, and the profile tries to switch.

There are a few apps to handle multiple alarms. A free one is MyAlarm, and one you can purchase is Mobylo! MultiAlarm.

You only need the 10PM to 12AM rule if you have no other rules until 6AM. The phone will stay in the profile set by the 10PM to 12AM rule unless you manually change it to something else.

i like the idea of default/24 hour rule, with meetings overiding it, i think this would allow this app to contribute so much more.

Any chance you can add the ability to change profile when being plugged in/unplugged? The fact that I can't have my 8830 switch from vibrate to ring when I plug it in (and walk away), and have it switch back when I unplug it, drives me batty. Every cell phone I've ever owned has done that.

Default Profiler Scheduler hosed my BB - 09-13-2007, 05:51 PM

After playing with this app for the last 3-4 days or so, I decided it's something I don't need enough to shell out $16. So I uninstalled it via desktop manager (I had done NOTHING with the phone prior to the uninstallation- literally did just when I woke up). After my BB rebooted, my theme was changed, lost half my icons, and my gmail account wasn't receiving mail (I installed another gmail account and had no problems with that particular one, just the main gmail account I use). Literally half my icons were gone, including my profile icon, and it was set to mute (not my default setting).

Spent HOURS doing what an experienced BB user would do- deleted the gmail account, reinstalled it, resent the books, re-registered the HRT, power cycled the BB, and on and on. After hours of this, I finally called ATT, and spent another hour or so doing again what I had done. Then I had to move up the chain to one upper level tech to another. FINALLY, the last tech said he was going to send something to my phone, had me reboot, and all was well again. I asked him if there was anything I could have done to effecuate what he'd done. He said no, not in this instance. Sometimes a 3rd party app will hose your system to the extent that the carrier has to zap your phone to get things going again. So, as far as Profiler Scheduler is concerned, this is what I have to say about it:

I spent well over 7 hours getting my device up and running again.

The response you got from the "experts" at ATT are typical when they have no clue what's going on.
I'm sorry for your trouble in this instance. This is the first I've heard of it, and I've had testers install/delete/reinstall literally hundreds of times. Without knowing your particular setup and how many things you install and run on it, there's really no way to diagnose that.

Sincerely,
Matthew Wheaton

Default 8800 Issue? - 09-14-2007, 02:11 AM

Hello,

I have loaded version 1.2 on my 8800 and made sure I have keyboard injection set to allow. I am not on BES either. No matter what rule I have in place...or calendar rule added, the program does not switch profiles. What it does is pop up the profile selection screen (as if I clicked on the profile icon as usual) and it just stays selected on the current profile...and the window doesn't go away either.

Even when I had the keyboard lock engaged, I got a beep and vibrate as expected notifying me that it was engaged. Then, when I disengaged the keyboard lock, the message popped up telling me the profile was activated, but it did not change it to vibrate (which is what I had selected for the meeting).

Am I doing something wrong...or is this possibly a bug with the program when loaded on an 8800 as I know it was developed on/for the 8100.

Anyone else have it functioning on the 8800?

Thanks for any support.

I've seen that before too, usually it only happens after an unholstering after a rule change has occurred. In almost two weeks of use, I have seen it about twice on my 8800. My uninformed guess when I thought about it (keeping in mind I didn't see it often enough to really tell one way or another), is that other applications also wake up a the same time when unholstering (although I don't think I have anything else that uses keystroke injection) and they might be competing or conflicting in some way.

Since I've had the program installed (just over a week), I have noticed that sometimes the profile will switch to Phone Only or Loud, even though those are not in any of my rules.

Additionally, over the past three days, my screen starts to flicker and then the BB shuts off. The only way to get it running again is to pull the battery. Even then, sometimes when it restarts it flickers and shuts off again.

Anyone else have that problem?

do it work when the phone is in holster? I have try few time set it to Vibrate and when my meeting came it never did because it say my phone key either is lock or is in holster. Is that because the program not allow or just basically the phone is not allow a profile change while in holster? If it works even if the phone is in holster will be great because I always leave my phone in holster. Thanks

Thanks for the idea, but I don't believe that is it. This morning I woke up and when I pushed a button on the 8800, I saw the profile selection window, but it had not changed anything (I had a rule to switch to normal at 7am) and I had no other appointment or task set to go off at 7am.

Have you set a temporary rule based on a calendar event? Has that worked for you? That would basically be the same thing I believe too. Can you test that for me? Yesterday I did a test meeting at 8pm and added a rule in the meeting to switch to vibrate. When the meeting came, the profile selection window popped up but nothing changed.

Thanks for the help.

Hi there,

Have you tried a battery pull?
After that, if it's still not working, double check those permissions again.
Take a look in
Options > Advanced Options > Applications > BBProfiles > Menu Key > Edit Permissions > Interactions > Menu Key > Expand
Ensure all sub Interactions settings are "Allow".

If that is all good, open the Profile Scheduler using the icon. If a rule is listed as active, click the menu key, click "Deactivate Scheduler", then click the "Activate Scheduler" button. You should nearly instantaneously see a profile change occur.

Let me know what happens.

Regards,
