Arrow Empower InstaSpell goes Live: Device Based SpellCheck in Email, SMS, Notes, Chat.. - 09-10-2007, 11:32 AM

Just a Quick Note. Empower InstaSpell is now live. Thanks to everyone who took the beta and contributed their feedback and suggestions.

Grab the latest version from www.getEmpower.com

Also, we are happy to give all BBF users an inaugral discount of MORE THAN 50% ! Just use the code INSTASPELL-BBF and you can have it at $7 !!!

Please note this offer is valid only till Friday, 9/14/2007. So make sure you use it before Friday.

Also, for those who are new to InstaSpell here is some basic info. The beauty of Empower InstaSpell is -

1. Universal: Empower InstaSpell is made to be universal ! That means it will do spell check for you not only in emails but also in SMS, Notes, Tasks, Memo, IM, Calendar etc. Some people have reported it working with some 3rd party apps as well.

2. As-you-type: InstaSpell detects incorrect words the moment you type them! Its instantaneous. For those wanting spell check at the end there is an option for that as well in your menu. Just click on InstaSpell after you are done writing your email.

3. On-device: Fully on-device. Unlike server-based checking where the whole text is sent to server, InstaSpell is fully on-device. The real advantage is not that it saves your data usage on every email. The real importance of on-device spell check is for privacy reasons - both of your business and personal emails. With InstaSpell, your data stays with you.

Give it a try. Screenshots and a public review at -

http://www.berryreview.com/2007/07/3...k-as-you-type/

(Pls note, the review is of an older version 0.9 - the latest version on release is 1.31)

Also, in case someone you know is thinking of buying InstaSpell, and is not aware of the discount offer, pls let them know.

Thanks Again!
Ani.

Got it working. First I downloaded the wrong one and was getting an error message but I am great now. This is a must have and I will test it a little more and then be purchasing it.

Yep.

InstaSpell first - http://www.getempower.com/isc/isc.php
Dictionary next - http://www.getempower.com/isc/dict.php

Please install InstaSpell first and then the Dictionary. Once both are installed you will see a cute ‘abc’ icon on your HomeScreen. Open it, and click on Install button to Index the dictionary. Indexing is important to increase the lookup speed, and takes about 30 sec to complete. Once indexing is over, you will see some stats like - Word Count etc. Tick the Enable SpellCheck and exit. That should be it.

Ani.

Ani,

Did I read correctly in an earlier thread that once the dictionary is installed and indexed that we can actually delete the dictionary module to save space?

How well does Instaspell coexist with the built in Spell checker? I much prefer Instaspell, but there is no way to disable the onboard Spell Checker on the 8820.

Good question, I use Empower and was just about to add InstaSpell when I saw bostonnerd's comment since I have the 8820 as well.

They seem to coexist just fine. I changed the built in checker to trigger on the maximum word length (13?) and all seems to be working great.
