Unhappy BB Weather at wits end! - 09-10-2007, 03:22 PM

Hey all,

I have been a Blackberry user for about 4 years now and have had 3 different models. I have utilized BB Weather on all of them including the 8830 (VZW). I love the program and really need it as I travel a ton for work. I have never had a problem with the app EVER until a couple weekends ago.

As I have hundreds of times before, I was on the road and opened BB Weather in the a.m. to check my next destinations forecast. This is when my little world was turned upside down.... "Malformed Address. Returning Null Connection". WTF!

As stated before, I have had this app for years with no problem at all (all on VZW Blackberry devices). Now, without doing anything different or changing anything on the device, I am getting this error. I know some of you will have an initial reaction of "that is just not possible, you had to do something to the device", but I am telling you.... I did nothing at all! I put it on the night stand next to me when I went to bed, woke up the next morning tried the app and the error has been coming up ever since! The app has worked for me every time I have used it (which is usually multiple times a day) on my 8830 (initial OS and the new release)... All my other apps are working just fine (Beyond411, etc.)...

I have searched for weeks on this and other forums for a cure and it has come to this.... Nothing I have tried has worked and so I find myself reaching out to all of you for help and direction. If it has been posted here, I have tried it, more than once! I have deleted and re-installed a few times as well.

I have found numerous posts about this issue, but none of them seem to lead to resolution. Also, it seems that the majority of the issues have come with Cingular/TMO users, which ends up more often than not a TCP/APN setting issue. However, Verizon, to my knowledge does not require this.... (not sure and this could end up being the issue, but I not seen it yet)!

Any help whatsoever would be hugely appreciated! I know I can get weather other places, but you have to admit that it does not get much easier than BB Weather! Somebody save me!

BTW, with Verizon on 8830 BIS.... NO BES!

Thanks in advance for any help.....

Does the BB Weather program have a support site that you could contact?

You can try uninstalling it and install .75 from my tips site. That may not help. But you can start there. Hopefully that resets the firewall and all that.

I've had a problem like that before, all I had to do was either restart the BB or close an application or two that requires a data connection. I believe you have too many connections open which is causing the problem.

How do I close other applications? Also, I have done a few resets with no luck!

I did go in and download .75 with hopes that it would trigger something, but still no good news!

On another note, I love your page, thanks for all the good info!

If you don't start any other applications up after the restart and it still doesn't work then I it sounds like what I said isn't the solution. Usually just going to the options menu of the app and choosing close or exit should do it. Have you tried a hard reset by taking out the battery for a bit?

Are you on a BES? Go into the settings and select "Disable MDS Proxy"

Make sure you've checked "disable MDS Proxy" under Options.

I feel your pain Dawg... I am still trying to figure out how to get it working again! I have yet to find an answer, and I have yet to hear back from the developer! It is a shame as I have used this program for years and now nothing. Please if anyone knows whats going on let us know!

The only time I got a message like this was when I got the city name and the zip code fields mixed up in one of the profiles.
