Angry Do Not Disturb - 09-13-2007, 12:26 AM

1. Created a profile, marked the phone on the new provile as "do not disturb." 2. Set the active profile to "loud" and set the phone to ring through.
3. Created an exception using the new profile with the "do not disturb" on phone (to send callers in this exception to voice mail). Is this possible. Do the profiles act independently of each other when they overlap? I tried this and the exception calls are ringing, pop up is appearing that I have a call. The only way the "do not disturb" feature works is if it's on the "active profile?" I'm trying to use this exception as a call blocker for anyone who is group in this category. Has anyone tried this, does it work?

I do not believe that method will work.

Black and Whitelisst or BB Call Screener should do the job.

Look in teh Aftermarket Software section, i am moving this thread there as well.

I have been doing this for about the last month -- works like a champ, with the exception of not being able to reject private or unknown numbers. The call will show on the display as it "rings", but it will silently roll over to voicemail. None of the call blocking apps that I have tried work with the 8703e and OS v4.1.x.

Hi, I tried this method and didn't work. That's what I did:

1) create a profile named DND, put all alarms as mute and mark phone as DND.
2) create an exception, say family, where the active profile is normal
3) I called from an exception phone and calls are bounced, instead ring as normal.

Am I missing something? Thanks for the tip!

Best,
Jaime

Would you share the step-by-step process you used to get it to work?

No problem...
  1. Launch the RIM Profile manager app, and select your preferred "normal" profile (mine is Vibrate).
  2. From the menu, create New Exception. In the exception (I named mine Blacklist), add callers that you want to block to the "From:" list. Select your silent profile with Do Not Disturb enabled for the "Use Profile:" field -- "Custom Phone Tune" really does not matter, and does not need to be enabled here. Save the exception. (NOTE: The exception can be edited at any time to add or remove contacts.)
  3. Enable "Use Active Profile Except For:" the newly created exception.

You can enable/disable the exception(s) at will without changing them. You can even create multiple exceptions to fit your needs at various times. You can select a different profile without affecting your exception(s). Now if there was only a way to block private or unknown (not broadcast) numbers...

Also, you should be able to reverse this in order to implement a "whitelist" instead of a blacklist.

Hope this helps.

I deactivated do not disturb from the dnd profile and the whistelist calls pass through the dnd profile. If I active do no disturb, all calls are squashed.

Best,
Jaime

The DND is enabled for the profile specified in the exception as the blacklist. For whitelisting, you would need to select a silent profile with DND disabled, and the exception would be a vibrating or ringing profile -- it appears that DND takes over before the exception takes place.

The whitelist method doesn't ring, but calls aren't bounced.

Disable DND (i.e., mute all, but set "Do No Disturb:" to No), and you should be golden!

It appears only a 3rd party program will work for this. The only way calls are directed to voicemail without any ringing for the caller is to set any ACTIVE profile to "do not disturb." Exceptions marked "do not disturb" will ring in the callers ear, pop up as incoming call for the blackberry user, then after then after the normal amount of rings for the caller (on the phone) sends the call to voicemail. FRUSTRATING. I now have Black & White List which I LOVE however this program doesn't seem to work when the blackberry is in the holster. I will try Berry Blocker next as I hear the upgraded ver 08 allows this feature to work while in the holster. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Remember that the ORDER of your exceptions matters, AND that exceptions are NOT profile specific, meaning they filter all incoming.

Does this mean If I have to filter caller where some get voice mail directly and some get the call through, then I have to buy a third party program. It does not work with the DND and creating an exception, right?
