Thumbs up Beta test the latest mediaPlayer: last.fm supported :) - 09-12-2007, 11:42 PM

Dear Supporters, some news for you:
There is a beta of our new version available for public access from:
OTA: http://www.dollars5.com/QA1/mediaPlayer.jad
Desktop Install: http://www.dollars5.com/QA1/mediaPlayer.zip

The following are the improvements:
1] Added Last.fm scrobbling (Let the world know what song you listen at present - more details from Last.fm – The Social Music Revolution site)
2] Added Last.fm radio player (listen to tracks as you wish - search by tag or artist and stream the songs - make sure you have very good bandwidth and set the radio buffer level to a larger value - it is very high bandwidth streaming)
3] Added support for side volume control keys
4] Added 'Auto detect' audio path - some good news for Bt users (adjustable from settings screen)
5] Improved Internet Radio streaming
6] Wall paper changing (adjustable from settings screen)
7] Seek audio/video support
8] Auto detect new codecs as supported by the device platform (preparation for the possible WMA support)
9] Battery/Signal level
10] Auto Start playlist on startup (adjustable from settings screen)
11] Auto Stop at duration or at low/set battery level (adjustable from settings screen)
12] Improved Crossfade (adjustable from settings screen)
13] Forward and rewind for videos by percentage set in settings

There is some bad news for the XM Radio and Sirius fans - both seems to stream in WMV format which is not supported at present by RIM Platform at present.

A few more secret features to be announced sooner - so stay tuned. We really would appreciate your feedback on the features and suggestions o improve further.

dollars5--do I need a validation key to use this beta and/or try out the software? I just downloaded and it is asking me for it. The download updated a previous trial I had used a few weeks ago.

Thanks.

How to use the playlist organizer, here are the instructions:
1] Launch Playlist Manager (menu option or second icon in the bottom toolbar)
2] Select a playlist where you want to organize th songs
3] hit Menu and select Move option - so now the Move mode is enabled
4] Scroll to a song that you want to move to other location, while you have focus - click the trackball once on that song.
5] Now scroll to the location where you want the selected song to be placed, click th trackball again to reposition.
6] Repeat the steps by enabling the move mode for individual songs and move them as needed

This feature is a basic implementation - we would love to hear from you on how to improve it (we are planning to indicate the move mode via UI icon and to highlight the selected song) - more feedback would really be appreciated.

Check tr username or password from the settings screen or from the player screen menu select configure last fm .Enter the username and password in the column and select save.
Wait for few seconds and check whether the network connection is stable.

Kind of a bum deal, the beta has issues on my 8320. I can't stream one of my favorite MP3 radio stations as it won't even start. And I get frequent crashes with it. Also I thought this may be a light at the end of the tunnel for video being able to route it's audio into my AD2P bluetooth headset, but even when setting it as the output device, it still came from the handset.

Looks like a nice player otherwise.

>>This feature is a basic implementation - we would love to hear from you on how to improve it.<<
Sure, here it is:

1] Launch Playlist Manager - menu option or second icon in the bottom toolbar or simply press the P key - P no longer controls the volume, use the side keys for that.
2] Select/highlight the playlist whose songs you want to organize.
3] Hit the O key. The playlist is automatically Opened (displayed) and the Organize mode is enabled. Organize is displayed at the top, next to "Playlist Manager". If you hit O again, Organize mode is toggled off and the playlist is closed, i.e. you go back to the list of playlists.
4] Highlight a song and press a number corresponding to the position you want the song to take (the position numbers are displayed before each song for your convenience). The song will jump to that position automatically. If the number you intend is greater than 9 (two digits), press Shift before the numbers, so the song will be moved automatically only after you press two number keys. Examples: press 3 and the song jumps to 3rd place; press Shift+1+2 and the song jumps to the 12th place. You can do that forever until you toggle off Organize mode and exit the playlist, back to the list of playlists. Zero or Del removes the song from the playlist.
5] When you've finished organizing (now viewing the list of playlists), press the X (eXecute) key to play the currently highlighted playlist or A to add that playlist to the end of the current queue (NowPlaylist). Alternatively, press the Q (Quit) key to go back to the player (rather then back each damn step in the configuration screens). Note that the modified playlist is always saved automatically, even if you press the Quit key. Q no longer controls the volume, use the side keys for that.

There is plenty of room for improvement in this app regarding menus, commands and shortcuts. I could talk about it all day.

BTW, are you aware of the thirty-six minute bug? I can't seek further into the song (actually, a podcast) than 36 minutes. The player goes back to the beginning when I try.

I also CRAVE a decent seek command in all the media players that I have tested. I need to be able to go back just 5 or 10 seconds. One minute is way too much. I really want to have that. Badly. Please. I will buy the license again if you let me have that. How about the Symbol key? It's not used anyway. It would be a wonderful skip-back shortcut.
