Question BerryBlocker NOT Sending Calls Directly to Voicemail? - 09-14-2007, 12:28 PM

Program isn't working as described. When BerryBlocker is active and a specific phone number(s) is/are set to "deny", the caller is hearing the same number of rings he/she would hear if the phone actually rang. I am not disturbed when these calls come in (no sound, no pop up of an incoming call) BUT, the CALLS ARE NOT GOING DIRECTLY TO VOICE MAIL WHEN THE PROGRAM IS ACTIVE. I upgraded the program and am now running ver 08, problem still exists. I am running the new OS 4.2 and BerryBlocker 08. Is there a fix for this?

None of the two existing 'blocker' applications (Berryblocker and Black&White List) currently really block calls. They are more for Do Not Disturb's without changing ringtones to mute and requiring the callers to be in your address book. In addition, one or both of these applications have other options for blocking unknown or private callers, whitelisting, etc.

Neither of these programs as they exist will send your caller immediately to voicemail. What they do, as I mentioned above, is prevent the phone from ringing; and when the requisite number of rings has occurred, the caller gets sent to voicemail. Neither of the applications hang up on the caller, forward to another number, send callers to voicemail immediately, read out a recording, send the caller an SMS, or anything else.

Berryblocker, to my understanding, is no longer being supported; someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

The new kids on the block are Antair's recent release (which I can't comment on because I haven't tried it), and Black & Whitelist's soon-to-be-released (Sep 16th?) i, Call Manager. i, Call Manager is supposed to have some of the features mentioned above, and you can read about them in this forum.

I do differ in opinion. I currently run "Black & Whitelist" and calls that come through that are not on my "white list" or that are on the "black list" are sent directly to voicemail. I have added my home phone number to each list and experimented with this. Otherwise, what would they be but glorified exceptions to a profile?

I know that with the program that I use, you have to "allow" keystroke injection in your settings. Maybe this is required for Berry Blocker as well?

WOOPS, you are right!

I also tested the heck out of B&WList from a variety of phone numbers, by editing my addressbook, etc. After I was satisfied that the program worked, I haven't looked at it much since (since I really don't have any numbers I want to block).

What I am remembering now, is that I altered my addressbook work and home numbers so that I could call my BB from work and home to test blocking without being detected as being in my addressbook while testing the addressbook only option. And, of course during that series of tests, my calls did not get sent to voicemail immediately.

Glad you caught me there cw, and a sorry to the OP for the bum information!

What I'm looking for in the upcoming i, Call Manager is the ability to NOT send the blocked caller to voicemail at all... hence TRUE call blocking. And forwarding to disconnected numbers /rubs hands Mwahahaha

Thanks for the feedback. I am familiar with calls not literally going directly to voicemail without ringing at all. BlackWhite List will send the call after one or two rings in the callers ear and sometimes it will go DIRECTLY to voicemail without the caller hearing any ringing at all. I know this becasue I've tested this many times. However the BerryBlock isn't even doing this. It's ringing 5 times for the caller, just as if I actually missed the call. Maybe that's just the way BerryBlocker functions? I'm trying to decide which program to use.

Yah with B&W List you can definitely send calls straight to voice mail.

The features I like best are for Unknown and Private numbers to be blocked.

Sounds like the new version will allow you to have a caller from Unknown or Private have more options to block them.

Instead of going straight to voice mail, you can select a setting for endless ringing or a busy tone for the caller. If that is added I will be very happy, we'll see.

I have been using iCallManager for some time now, have added several numbers to the "blacklist" to be blocked and it still allows them to go through, the only numbers that are actually rejected are "unknown and private numbers," any suggestions?
