Default Webmessenger fiasco - 06-06-2005, 10:46 AM

I have been trying VeriChat, which has been great so far although I do have disconnects periodically. I decided to try Webmessenger before deciding which to buy. I've since had to delete it due to numerous problems. Maybe someone can shed some light on my problems so I can give it a fair try.

I installed, and then had a little difficulty in figuring out how to add my yahoo and msn accounts. I admit, I didn't read instructions anywhere, but other programs (i.e. VeriChat) are pretty intuitive. Not the case here ..... anyway, I got it configured and logged on ..... seemed to work very well. Playing around with it, I found where I could have a sound played if I received a message. Turned notification on .... the start of my problems! First off, I didn't like the fact that it played a song ... about 10 seconds of song as a matter of fact .... I tried to change it, however there were only a couple selections that were active and ALL were songs ... I couldn't select just a single beep. I tried to turn off notification, unchecked, deleted that profile, all to no avail ... not only that, but my BB kept playing midi's. It wouldn't stop! About every 30 seconds or so it would play a different song. I wasn't receiving messages (I know this because I logged in with an account I only use to test messaging from my computer to the BB). I rebooted the device, took the battery out and still couldn't get it to stop playing music. I finally deleted Webmessenger and things are back to normal.

As it stands, I liked some of the features of Webmessenger over what is on VeriChat. The interface seemed to be a little nicer also. I can't have the darn thing playing music all the time however! Anyone have any ideas? I'm using a BB 7520 on Nextel and the latest download of WM from their site.

I would recommend going back to Verichat. That is probably the best thing. You may want to go to the PDAapps page and download version 2.35b. I spoke to PDAapps support about a week ago and they told me this one is free of problems, and thus far, I have seen nothing to indicate otherwise. Your log in password etc. will still work.

That happened to me as well jwaters. It turned out I had it set notify me of "property/status changes"... so whenever any contact's online status changed it would alert me (which happened every 10 seconds.) I just changed the setting to turn it off.

And as far as the different ringtones/alerts -- I had plenty of different beeps and simple tones. It's odd that all you had was long midi songs.

Default The ramble users alway post in webmessenger or verichat threads. - 06-07-2005, 06:36 AM

Ramble isnt a fix for anyone who uses verichat webmessenger or causerrie. Although I hear ramble is a nice program it cant compare in value to any of the big three im messengers. It is a single im program so really useless unless you only use aim.. most use others as well I use Yahoo aim msn, so ramble has a long way to go.

I believe I stated that I only IM on AOL. Thank you for the reiteration.

Maybe I'll reinstall and try again. I don't think that I was getting notification of status changes, I only have a couple dozen people on my buddy list, I'm not a huge IM fan but it does have it's uses (mainly during those boring meetings!!!). Also, I was getting the midi's playing when I wasn't even logged into Webmessenger until I deleted it.
