Question Software licensing - 09-27-2007, 01:06 PM

Can a registered 3rd party program be used for two different BB's? I am interested in purchasing the 'video converter.' My boyfriend and I both have BB's (I-8300 & he 8800). Would I be able to use the same purchased software for both of our devices or do we each have to purchase our own copy?

usually the 3rd party program is pin specific, meaning you would not be able to use one copy.
some developers are understanding and often if you contact them they'll allow you to do so.

To elaborate on tjk1, it's all about the licensing terms - some licenses will actually let you install two copies of something (Adobe/Macromedia does this) knowing that one copy will be at work and one at home - but many do not and allow only a single use at a time. Some licenses (such as the cheaper JiveTalk one) may even restrict usage to a single device and require you to pay more $$$ if you want to move it (i.e. you upgrade your BB device).

Read your license terms, just see what it has to say. There's no one right answer to your question, every company does it differently.

Have you contacted the support for the product? Typically they will be the best person to answer yoru question. If they only allow you to install the application on one device they *might* give you a discount on a second license.
