Default Newest Google Maps CRAP! - 10-08-2007, 01:46 PM

So I have the newest google maps and I think it's crap and they need to either upgrade quickly with features from the previous version or downgrade till they work all the bugs out. Anyone else agree and having problems with it crashing alot? I've deleted it and redownloaded it several times...

I get the un caught something error... (Sorry give me a minute and I can get it to repeat the issue)... I lost the ability to search for location and search for buisness now it's just search which is FRUSTRATING... I'm almost at the point where I don't want to use it. OH and when I try to dial from google maps it practically freeze... It makes the call but I can't doesn't change screens and I can't exit out... I've got the newest verizon software and my phone doesn't have any conflicting programs.

Do you have 1.6.2? I haven't downloaded it yet, but I think I will wait now

I have 1.6.1, and I get the calling from google maps annoyance as well, the popup question repeats over and over and stays at the front until you reboot the device. I don't use that feature anymore.

Also if I do directions to a location, then click on Find Location to do a new search, it crashes everytime, so I have to use the directions option or go back to a favorite to avoid this issue.

I am using 1.6.2 but I have not had any errors.

Can someone share what exact issue(s) you have had? I wonder if I could replicate the error.

Foner,
I didn't say I want a refund... I know it's free like EVERYTHING else google offers. All I'm saying is I wish the would either issue 1.6.3 or I could downgrade to 1.6.1 (which I had no issues with)... Thats all

PLCHAN,
I get an error that says something like "Uncaught Null -----" jarble I don't remember. Typically I get that after having Google maps do directions and then re open it later to try and locate something.

I think not being able to disable the GPS location at the start up causes some problems for me...

Also having just 1 search option I think causes more false answers IE when we had search business and search location there was no room for confusion in the program

RJW I'm right there with you... Heck on my 8703e I can't even get the program to work AND I've even gone so far as to reload the OS!

apple - I hear ya. I'm just saying that that is what we sometimes get for being early adopters.
Having said that, have you tried installing Google Services? It may still not be the updated 1.6.2 (just a guess - I havent checked)
I'm running the latest Vodafone 8800 and have had no issues (and can deal with the search thing)
Good Luck!

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Have you tried loading it as part of Google Service as opposed to separate app or visa versa?

Mine was unstable the first use and now it's fine. I do miss the separate search for business tho.

Go to Options >Advanced Options >Applications. Highlight Google Maps and hit the menu key and select "Edit Permissions." Then hit menu again and select reset firewall prompts.

Now run Google Maps again. When it asks you to allow access to phone logs, say yes and "don't ask me again."

For the 8703e, try the generic 8700-series version -- the 8703e-specific version auto-selected by Google (Google Maps) has not worked for several versions. The v1.6.3 link is:

http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.6....00_v4_1_L1.jad

This works on my device, including Bluetooth GPS "puck" support.

Still no dice on AT&T 8300. :( It dials out, but the prompt never leaves the screen, and you have to pull the battery...

Edit: I reset going through Google Maps help, and now it's working. Finally.

Interesting...experiencing the same thing with my 8320. Mine never even dialed out. It just stays at the prompt screen.

Instead of resetting the prompts, go to Advanced Options > Applications > select Google Maps and hit the BBerry button > Edit Permissions and then expand the section for "Connections." Here you have the option to either "deny, allow, or prompt" for direct dialing. Actually, this is the area where you can change all of the application permissions for Google Maps (or following similar instructions, any app you have installed on your phone). To bypass this problem on my Pearl, I simply changed the "Phone" permissions to "allow." Do this and your problem should be solved.

Still, the latest versions of Google Maps have been a real pain in the ***. They need to figure this out ASAP. I'm tired of GMM crashing every time I reopen it. Argh...
