Default Are you using SimulSays? Thoughts? - 10-10-2007, 03:32 PM

I realize that there has been previous discussions about SimulSays, but I'm a late adapter, just installed it a couple of days ago, and wanted to hear other people's thoughts, who've used it for a while.

What I've found out so far is, while I really like it, there are a few bugs which haven't been sorted out yet.

1. Seems to disable some programs, such as Opera, bbweather and one of the nav programs (I don't use it, so I forget it's name).

2. It won't work with bluetooth headset.

3. Won't update, if you delete message on your bb, you'll still need to delete it online for it to really be gone.

Temporary fixes, for #1, if I set Options/SimulSays/Enable Polling Mode, Opera and other programs work. It's a hassle to have to switch back and forth to enable Opera, but right now, that's what I'm doing. When I turned Polling on, I simply didn't receive ANY indication that a message came in, and I called myself to test it.

#2 is really strange. Even Pacman transfers the sounds over to my bluetooth headset, when I have it on. As far as I know, EVERY other program transfers sound to my headset except SS. And, it's kind of a pain to have to listen via the built in speaker. Even the speakerphone doesn't work with SS!

#3. This is also kind of strange. I use IdeaMatrix, and every change I make on IdeaMatrix on my bb gets updated instantly, to the website, so there has to be a way SS could update it's website, and delete messages once I've deleted them from my Pearl

Overall, I really like the program. Love being able to save messages, and listen to them out of order, love being able to listen to my messages without calling in to voice mail... I just wish/hope that they update the problems. This could really be a killer program!

Haven't tried the transcription service... anyone care to tell about their experiences with it? Is it accurate? Do you find it useful?

I can resist anything but temptation.

I use the transcription service and don't use the application because it was very buggy. It's been about 3 months since I played with the software so cant comment on any recent changes.

As for the transcription service, it's great. I read my email and cant remember the last time I actually listened to one. Funny calling back a client and says, "hey I just read your voicemail..." I sometimes get weird responses, like what? read my message or heard my message?? ...

I've been using SimulScribe with the SimulSays client for a few months now. The client is still beta and definitely has some limitations. As for me, I'm considering dropping the service...the transcriptions are just not very accurate for my taste. Messages come in looking like swiss cheese with all the (?) placeholders.

Although it doesn't have transcription (yet), I'm checking out GrandCentral. It has a multitude of feature and you can have VM's mailed to you and listen via bluetooth if you're in a meeting. Not as good as transcription so I hope they add the feature but, VERY flexible nontheless.

My two cents anyway.

I've been using it off and on. Last month it seemed that I had to keep restarting the client app to get it to pull down messages. I was missing a few, and didn't even realize it. But I was traveling overseas (not that it should matter, but data is all over the place there -- EDGE/GPRS/nothing, etc.)

I'm back on it again, and seems to be smooth, especially with the latest version of ATT Pearl SW (4.2.1.96).

I was going to send a friend to their website, but I don't see the "FREE" beta sign-up anymore. Only 7-day trial and a $10 and $30 plan.

Are they out of beta now?

(hopefully we're grandfathered in! --hahah, doubt it).
