Question Task Manager Recommendation? - 10-11-2007, 01:58 AM

I’m looking for a simple task manager, at least for right now. For my purposes, Outlook is more than I want to deal with. I’m one of the world’s great procrastinators and need help to get my life organized.

What I was thinking was a simple list with the ability to manually sort (drag & drop) and check off when complete. I MAY want to be able to expand later and organize these into folders if that matters. I really don't need or want % complete, who a task is assigned to and all that. Nothing too complex.

I saw a reference to PocketDay here. Any other recommendations for me? Thanks!

pocketday is a good one, but it's not really a task manager.
i've been beta testing bbtask pro, which is really good! don't know when its coming out though.
there is also todomatrix, next action, but those are quite expensive... $50.
a program called magictask is being worked on, and it shows promise, but isnt as developed and feature full as the others yet.

Officially a blackberry addict.

Todomatrix is expensive, but it is an excellent product. It is easy to use and can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. You can try it out for free from REXwireless: BlackBerry Software Applications. You might be instantly hooked!

Pocketday lists is also a good product that can be used as a task manager that will allow you to check things off and organize them into folders. At 19.99 it is more reasonably priced. You can try it out for free at PocketDay.

Going along with what THE said above, RexWireless has very very good products. If todoMatrix seems like too much, try IideaMatrixl slimmed down version of todoMatrix that can hold much more inside of their notes (even though todoMatrix has been boosted up to 512 characters now!). IdeaMatrix will give you some complexity, but less than todoMatrix, if that is what you are looking for. Jusr my 2 cents.

Well of course I'll through my hat into the the Rexwireless ring. Plenty of posts if you do a search, the vast majority are favorable.

For simple task management, the built-in task manager works well. Sounds to me like that is a better fit for you to get started with organization, then move on to something that offers more features. It really doesn't get much more basic that the built in task manager, it is free so you can see if it works for you and it syncs with OL. When you start using it a simple todo list you'll see why we recommend todoMatrix - the extra features are really helpful.

I'll third (or fourth or whatever) the positive comments on ToDoMatrix.
It does cost a bit, (but good things usually do) and it's totally up to you how simple or complicated you want to make it.

Start off very basic and I'd almost guarantee you'll be using more of it's many capabilities in a short time.

Thats my experience anyways.

Cheers!

Maybe this is a stupid question, but my "basic" is a simple list where I can manually re-order the tasks. Does ToDoMatrix do this? Thanks.

I would think so..one drawer, you can name it as you see fit-"My stuff" for example.
In the drawer, one folder called "List" or whatever.

Once you have two or more entries in your folder you can arrange them as you like with a "grab and drop" type system.
Of course, once you use it a bit, you can sort tasks automatically in a variety of pre-set choices such as due soonest/farthest, highest/lowest priority, most recent/oldest etc.

Yes, it does do that. And I would most definitely be a +1 for recommending ToDoMatrix. But if you're looking for something simple, it may be a bit of overkill.

Agreed on the overkill for simple task management-but once the OP starts using it, I suspect they'd find themselves using a lot of the features.

When I first got my 8830 it was mostly for the exlusivity (sp?) factor-it's a cool gadget. However much to my surprise, I find I'm using the email, task management and such a LOT. You never know until you try I guess.
I certainly couldn't go back to a regular cellphone again that's for sure!

Sorry for drifting a bit off topic.

I checked out RexWireless' website. Right now, I'm thinking ToDoMatrix is way overkill for what I'm looking for, BUT, since they have the free trial, what the hey, I'll try it, IF I ever get my 8310.

Wow. I just changed my mind. Just finished watching the ToDoMatrix and IdeaMatrix demos on the RexWireless website. AWESOME!

DEFINITELY what the doctor ordered for what ails me.

Once I get my 8310 (Tuesday, PLEASE?), this will be the first thing I add.
