As another post recently stated, the GPS on my 8800 isn't working. Was wondering if there were any settings required to get it happening, or do i have a lemon? Its brand new, so can take back to Carphone Warehouse within 14 days....!
I tried everything, including going to the middle of a field to get reception.... nothing working !
Thanks ,
Josh
What are you doing that's not working?

I have heard that many can not get it to work with out a program like TelNav. I know I have stood out in the open with many of a cell phone including my old Nextel's and never got a fix!

That is not the case with the 8800, there is still a lingering rumor that it may occur on the 8820.
To brokentelephone--do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan from yoru carrier?

The GPS receivers are depending on something else for sure as my Garmin 60CSX gets a fix from a cold start in seconds and I can wait an hour and my 8820 (with a plan) can not get one?

Hi,
Sorry, I should've been more specific. I live in the UK, am on Orange, and do have a dataplan. I called Orange and they told me I might have a defective BB, so I am gonna go see the customer support for Carphone Warehouse thursday to see if they can help.
On a side note, I always though that GPS was something that didnt require a plan, and was simply a piece of hardware that should pick up GPS satellite signals, whether the phone had access to mapping software or not (assuming the carrier hasn't locked the phone). Is this incorrect?
Josh.

You are correct and it should work without any subscribed mapping service.
