My company just implemented a new phone system where voice mails are delivered as email as a .wav file. My 8703 "sees" the attachment but can't play them, says its not supported. Does anyone know of any way I can play .wav files from email attachments on the 8703e (Sprint).?

Does your company know the 8703 does not support WAV files?
Perhaps it is time for an upgrade?

I don't recall offhand the workarounds, but this is has been discussed on the board here often.

My company didn't buy the BB, I did myself. I'm with Sprint and the 8703 was the only one available at the time.

I didn't think the 87xx series supported the playing of WAV attachments without the 4.2 handheld OS. At least that is what happens with my 8700g. Once I upgraded to the 4.2 OS (which is not widely available for CDMA 87xx devices) I could play them when they were attached to an e-mail. Without the 4.2 OS I received the same "Not supported" message.

8700 does support WAV, the 8703 does not.

Does it support them as e-mail attachments (getting them to play) with the 4.1 OS? I was never able to get them to open as an e-mail attachment when my 8700g was on OS 4.1.0.377. I could play them if I saved them as a ringtone, or used the BlackBerry Browser to access one stored on my web server. But never as an e-mail attachment. If there is a way to do that I would love to know. That was one of the main reasons I switched to the 4.2 handheld OS, so I could play my Vonage WAV voice mails that were attached via e-mail.

from my experience, the 4.2 OS has enabled the playing of .wav files which the 4.1 OS did not support... At this time v4.2 OS is not available from Sprint...

Not as an attachment no, but for the user there have been some workarounds posted on the board to make it work, I just don't recall them. I know they will play from the Media Player on the 8700. Not on the 8703.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Cool beans.

Re: my 8703e. Just to let you know I receive my voicemail through email as well. The OS I had on the blackberry when I bought it would allow me to listen to .wav files. I had some problems and had to reinstall it and now the files are no longer recognized. Don't know the fix but wanted to let you know that it is possible to listen to .wav files on the 8703e.
