---- Update Post -----

New handhelds using the 4.2.2.163 handheld OS may experience an error whereby they are unable to load applications using the desktop manager. Upon attempting to use the desktop application loader the user recieves the error message "No additional applications designed for your device were found". To fix this issue the user must update their handheld OS to version 4.2.2.176 or greater.

For some unknown reason this update is not yet available at the RIM website but thanks to bbforums users mrking and tomdkat it is available at http://members.a1.net/updateservice/bb/8310M_PBr4%5B1%5D.2.2_rel323_PL2.5.0.34_A4.2.2.176.exe

Also, for some bizarre reason every download I try from RIM comes back to me as a corrupted zip. Very frustrating, this link really helped. Thanks!

This may have solved it, over in the 8800 forums:

Problems installing apps on my 8820 (http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-8800-series-discussion/97952-problems-installing-apps-my-8820-a.html)

you have to install the BB OS onto your computer as well to be able to upload apps. Your issue happened to me.

You can get the latest 8310 OS at: http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-8300-series-discussion/100333-latest-8310-os-version-4-2-2-176-vodafone.html

just follow the instructions and it will work. I am on Rogers and it installed no problem.

It's in the FAQ:

Application Loader Error - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Application_Loader_Error)

A search on simply "additional applications" brings up this page in the results.

Thank you very much to mrking and tomdkat for providing a link that actually works to get OS 4.2.2.176 (as this was literally the missing link).

http://members.a1.net/updateservice/bb/8310M_PBr4%5B1%5D.2.2_rel323_PL2.5.0.34_A4.2.2.176.exe

As for those of you who offered only criticism about search habits, you could learn something from these two who actually stepped up to the plate with something useful. Consider that if someone asks a question for which an answer is already posted that the posted answer may not have worked for them. With so many devices on so many networks there may not always be a universal solution that works across the board.
