I'm curious - anyone who has the 8830 has or is planning to switch over to the Pearl 2? If you have already - are you happier than the 8830? If you are planning to - what is making you switch?

I thought about it, I actually went over the the my local Verizon store and played with it as well as compared the two devices. I love what they have done with OS 4.3 (Hope it comes to our 8830's soon) there is a new font on that phone that just looks fantastic. I am guessing if they keep up with what they are doing, sometime soon the Blackberry OS may rival WM6 (which I think is nicer on the eyes) ... I didn't however like the screen resolution and orientation vs my 8830. You can set the fonts to be smaller and fit much more text on the screen. I like that much better on the 8830. The sure type keyboard on the pearl was a pleasure and I actually found it faster to type on it than my 8830 (I have big fingers) .. VZ Navigator worked great, and the phone has a nice form factor. At this time I will probably stay with my 8830, I would however love to see Verizon come out with the Curve, I believe that phone offers the best of both worlds.

I'd drop my 8830 for the Curve in no time. Having the ability to snap pictures/videos along side of email with a blackberry, well I don't know what more you could ask for. As far as the pearl goes? No, I'll keep my 8830.

I agree with the Curve comments. I wouldn't jump onto the Pearl because of I prefer the QWERTY keyboard.

To be honest, I think it's lame that BlackBerry ever creatd the Pearl. It's practically a wanna-be 8830, with 2 letters to a key.

I would like to get the Pearl b/c it has the camera. I don't think I'll do it b/c I just got the 8830 about 4 months ago - it would likely cost me full retail to do another upgrade - which would be about $500 I'm guessing. I also agree that the best would be Curve - if VZW gets it in the future. I am also taking a close look at these new LG phones that just came out from VZW. LG makes a great product IMO.

Ummm, A wanna-be 8830? Actually the Pearl was released first and is the device they originally devised the trackball for hence the name "pearl". So in a sense the 8830 is actually a build off of the pearl.

Correct the Pearl came out way before the 8830 did. My question then, why'd they even bother with the 8830? Other then it's CDMA, GSM etc. capabilities?

They sell the Pearl 2 at Costco stores, and I cannot remember the price; however, I do remember it was way less than $500. I'm going there tomorrow, so I'll get the full scoop and post it then.

Pearl is more of a phone with a bb where the 8830 is more of a bb with a phone

Pearl is a great phone & blackberry, can actually do more than our 8830's particularly with the Camera and Newer OS (8130 that is) ... I like to think of it as more of a phone for the general public, everyone that I have talked to who owns one loves it. So I don't think it's a waste... I know its not for me at this time, but it is a slick little device.

Now that I think of it as more of a phone it makes a little more sense to me.

I played around with the new Pearl today. It was actually very easy to type on I may have been wrong in being so critical of it.

I'd buy a VZW Curve if it was a dual mode CDMA+GSM.

If Verizon Wireless had a Curve, I would switch. I have played with Suretype but prefer full qwerty and use of the quick launch function. I am not sure if the new Pearls allow quick launch but I'd miss it too much. Bring on the CDMA Curve!

I'm torn.. I've had multiple Blackberry's, the pearl and curve on tmobile, a 7130 on sprint and now the 8830 on vzw. I love the 8830, its a bit big, but thats not a problem I love the full qwerty kb but i REALLY wish it had a camera.. Coming from an enV w/ an awesome 2mp camera to no camera was a very hard transition for me, its only been 3 weeks and i still miss having no camera.

but i got fat fingers and while 90% of the time i type fine, but i still make alot of mistakes and its troublesome.. when i had the pearl and 7130 they both had suretype and you really do get used it i think i actually type faster w/ the suretype as odd as that may sound..

so i dont know what I want to do, i got my 8830 for a hell of a deal even if it was defective vzw swapped it out w/ a new one in the store.. so i made out, but if the pearl is around 300 no contract price i may just buy it anyway to try it out... we'll have to see.
