So I was trying to update my girlfriends blackberry 8703 (verizon). I just downloaded and installed the latest blackberry desktop software and handheld software. It was in the middle of update the blackberry when my computer took a shit and reboot. Durring the reboot the blackberry froze and I took the battery out and replaced it. Now the only screen i get on the blackberry is a black and grey screen saying.
blackberry platform 2.3.0.20
savedmessages
options
addressbook
compose
alarm
calendar
when i click on something like options it says error starting net_rim_bb_options_app:module 'net_rim_locationapi' not found.

I uninstalled desktop and handheld software and re installed and connected the device and it says disconnected on the devive manager. So I cant even get it to recognize to start all over. So the blackberry is useless and nobody can help me. Someone please help!@<hidden>#!@<hidden>#!@<hidden>#

Thanks!

Welcome to the BBForums.

Make sure you have Desktop Manager installed, you said you did. Should be at least version 4.2, with Service Pack 2, the roxio media software is not required.

Get your OS downloaded. The latest for the 8703 is this:

You can follow those instructions at that link.

Reboot the PC from start. Run Desktop Manager, now, and see if it connects to the BB. Run App Loader and install theh OS.

If none of that works, you will need to wipe the BB like this, and load the OS, again.

It will work.

Then restore apps and data to the BB from a previous backup.

Good luck.

I leave the battery out the whole time correct? How long does it usually say connecting to device... for?

I think its working, the application loader wizard is doing its thing.

I had to go to this link and follow these instructions.

What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/What_to_do_next_if_Jl_Cmder_will_not_connect_and_wipe)

So now its at load java applications.

Once this is done do I need to open the desktop manager and application loader and re load everything else? Also it shows I have a file named LoaderBackup-(2007-11-29).ipd is that my backup file? How do I restore that so sarah has allher numbers and everything?

Thanks a million!

Just click on the Backup and Restore icon in Desktop Manager, and click on the Restore button and locate your ipd file. You can now select which items to restore, or select them all.
