and is it worth waiting for the 8130 or 8310 to be released here?

You should get whichever one you are more comfortable using.
Functionally, they're pretty much the same. They differ in physical size and keyboard type.

The 8130 will never come to Optus. It's a CDMA device.

This discussion has been posted many times before. If you do a quick search you should be able to find many different openiosn and benefits of both.

I have the curve and I love it. It has everything I need and more. I don't think the size is an issue and I like the fact that it has a qwerty keyboard. I know that many will praise the suretype but I don't mind the full board.

Either way you are getting a nice phone
