I don't know what is going on, I have the timeout set to 2 minutes, but no matter, my 8830 times out at about 15 seconds of no activity. That is too fast, I am trying to read my emails or notes and before I finish the screen goes black till I move the track ball again then it comes back to life. Very annoying. Is there a fix?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Did this just start happening or has it been happening since you have had the device?

It just started happening. I have had the 8830 for a month or more now, but this timing out screen is something that has started happening in the last week.
THanks.

Mine will dim from full bright to about 50% after a moment. But yours goes totally dark? does it come back if you touch a key?

Menu>options>SCreen/Keyboard>Backlight Timeout (is it set to 10 or 20 seconds?) If so change it to 30 seconds or a minute. Heck if you don't care about battery make it 2 minutes.

If that's not it then I am stumped. And I know you didn't change it and I have NO idea what caused it to change (providing that is the solution) :)

I had the similar issue out of the box, and the above cured it...

I want the backlight to stay on for 2 minutes. I have checked and re checked and the setting is set at 2 minutes. I particualarily notice the quick timeouts when viewing emails or viewing notes, I can't finish reading what is on the screen and it blacks out. Pressing the escape button brings it back, but it should just stay on for 2 minutes of no activity.

Change it to something else, and then back to 2 minutes. I seen this once and that fixed it.

I have tried that, setting it to 15 seconds and then setting it back to 2 minutes, but I will try it again. Thanks for all the suggestions and help, it may be something that I will have to tolerate.

Have you tried a battery pull? Make sure the setting is at 2 minutes, as you want, and then pull the battey. Sometimes our :bb: 's just need a good ole battery pull!

My wife and I each had 8700s, and I saw this same type of behavior (backlight going out after 15 seconds, even though it was set to stay on for 2 minutes) after we upgraded to OS 4.1.0 rel 529 from OS 4.1.0 rel 175.

The really funny thing is that we only saw the problem on her 8700, mine was unaffected. I had to downgrade her OS (which required a wipe with Javaloader, then a re-install)... after downgrading the OS, the backlight acted is it was supposed to. My backlight was fine with the upgraded OS.

Now, what does this mean about the 8800? Who knows, other than there may be a connection. I know if you search the 8700 forum, there is a thread there somewhere on this topic, but I don't believe anybody ever found a cure.

Sorry I can't be of more help, other than to point out this similarity...

Thanks.

Mine does something similar as well but I just push the top left button on top to brighten it up again and its ok for a while.
