How many times do I have to change my password? It seems like every 7 days im changing it! Im scared im going to lock myself out of my phone. Is there any way to make it stay the same forever? Or until I decide to change it?

Is this a corporate BlackBerry, on a BES?

If you are BES, then that schedule is set by your BES admin, you will need to speak to them.

No its my personal Blackberry on BIS

Where'd you get it? Was it ever on a BES?
Sounds like you may have an IT policy on the device from a previous BES setup.

I don't think it was ever on BES I got it from my friend. Is there anything in the security settings I can change to make it stop making me change my password. I can turn the password off but that would defeat the point.

Go to Options > Security Options > General Settings
Scroll down and tell us what it says next to IT Policy Name:

There is no place for IT Policy Name

Weird.
I don't know what your issue is then.
There's no security settings in the BlackBerry that will allow you to manually change a password expiration.

I can only imagine that there used to be a password policy implemented on the device, and then someone manually removed the IT policy.
Not sure how else you could have ended up in this position.

Where Penguin sent you, on that page, what does it say at the very bottom under "SERVICES"?

Thanks for the reply. Anyone else have this issue? I know my BB can't be the only one doing this.

Actually, you might be.
In all my years of dealing with BlackBerry device, I've never seen it before.

You have an IT Policy from "wherever" your friend got the BB.

Remove IT Policy - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Remove_IT_Policy)

If it had no IT policy, it would state "No Services" there.

I don't think he does.
What he posted is the service for Google Talk, not an IT Policy.

You are probably right, it being a service book.

Dreskills... go here: Options > Security Options > General Settings
Scroll to the bottom, and what is listed under "Services"?

I just answered that question

Services:
BBFS1[GTALKNA1] (AES)

Do I need to try to remove the IT policy? Do I have one or what?

JSanders
12-13-2007, 06:44 PM
Well, you could humor us one more time , and go to Options > SECURITY, General Settings.

But if that is what is there, I don't know what your issue is... Do the IT Policy Remove anyway, if you have one, it will remove it, and if you don't, it won't hurt.

Well, you could humor us one more time , and go to Options > SECURITY, General Settings.

Could you have first looked at Options > Advanced > Service Books, did you not? <<--not the right place.

I never went to "Service Books" I went to Options > Security Options > General Settings and scrolled down to Services

BBFS1 [GTALKNA1] (AES)

What next?

penguin3107

What next?

Follow the IT Removal process JSanders linked to above.
Even though one isn't listed... I guess it could still be there.

If one has anything under services other than *** no services ***, then there is a policy (even a blank policy) on the blackberry, right? I'm confused.

I just said the heck with it. Copied my passwords from password manager into a notepad file saved all my ringtones in the media software synced my addresses and phone numbers and calender in outlook. Then I tried to do a backup again before I decided to wipe and it worked! It actually backed up my info. Go figure. Just for kicks I am going to clear my profiles. Your searching was not in vain! Thanks so much to all of you for the help. Results of IT policy removal coming soon (as soon as this thing finishes scrubbing)

Dreskills

Just finished.... I don't think that worked. I have the same info as before. I guess the only way to tell is for me to wait about 3-5 days to see if it prompts me to create a new password.

Thanks for your help and I will check back to let you know the out come.

BTW Before I enabled wireless nothing was showing under "Services" then when I enabled wireless thats when I got the other info. That has to be Google Talk

So, Google Talk puts something on the BB that shows up in options > security > general settings > services? That's funny. (funny peculiar, not funny haha).

I have never used GoogleTalk. Actually, I deleted it from my phone but I have this same listing under services. My device is an 8320 from T-Mobile.

It only showed up sometime between last night and this morning though. I have stopped using that device since I am using something different but I did a few backups yesterday. On the second or third backup, since messages and calls kept coming in because I forgot to turn off the phone, the backups stopped working. I got the same error message as Dreskills.

How would an IT policy just install itself on the device without my permission and is this something I should be concerned with?

It's not an IT Policy. You shouldn't be concerned.

Stealth, no. "Default" is just that, the default policy pushed down from you BES Admins.
