View Full Version : RIM Charging Pod - Anyone have one?

Just saw this in an online accesory store. Seems to be out of stock just about everywhere. The sites say it is BB OEM, but I couldn't find in on the BB website, although I didn't look hard.

I plan to get one when in stock since I'm always putting stress on the USB port while charging my Curve. Bumping the cord or picking the phone up with it attached to check messages. Seems like that will eventually cause problems with the USB connector.

hey monkeypaw,
Check out your local tmobile store, they may have it. I was in one of the tmobile stores here this morning and they had a bunch. I think it was either 24.95 or 29.99.

Ok thanks. I never think of them as having good prices, but that's about what they go for online. Basically about $25 plus $5 shipping. So maybe a few dollars extra for tax.

That one does not do it for you?

It is compatible with the 83XX. I ordered onw when I ordered the longer life battery.

I've looked at all those that go through the USB port because they were so much cheaper than the BB charger that uses the contacts. But I just want to drop it into something and not have to do the cable. I don't have to backup all that often.

This pod is just what I was looking for. Like they read my mind.

From what I understand T-Mobile has only the 8100 stands in the stores right now and they are $29.99

Seidio is suppose to come out with one that will fit with their case also.

How about one that charges an extra battery at the same time?

3 Tmobile stores near me didn't have either one of them. Kinda small stores so I guess not surprising.

Blackberry does make one of those also and you can get them on Ebay for about $65.

I ordered the 8300 model from eshoplimited.com (chinesecatt) yesterday and just got a notice that it shipped today. I'll report after after it arrives.

Well the advantages would be the ability to synch on the cradle. I am pretty sure you can't synch with a pod/charger that only uses the points. Am I wrong?

Right, that's the downside. But folks on BES and those using bluetooth to synchronize have less reason to plug in the USB. Or folks like me who don't have to do backups all that often.

Ehh, I was just trying to make myself feel better for spending the cash on it the other day. 8-)

Thanks.

I ordered the 8300 model from eshoplimited.com. I did the same. Then I found some here for the 81xx and 83xx models.

Seidio is suppose to come out with one that will fit with their case also.

I am actually waiting for this one since I have the case and don't want to disassemble/assemble when charging.

I found the charging pod for my 83xx at bberry. Loving it! Feels solid, looks classy, doesn't take up a lot of space and my curve balances perfectly in it. Highly recommended.

Is it nicely weighted or really light? I want one of these for my 8320 (unless someone trades their 8310 ;) ) but I want it to be heavy enough on the desk and nightstand. Plus, I figure I can buy that and the battery charger/wall charger at Crackberry.com and I will have a way to charge the phone and the extra battery. Perfect.

Hopefully Seidio will respond to this soon because they were suppose to have one made that you can use with the hard case on it. They said it was suppose to be done around 12/15.....so time will tell. With the 9000 series coming out why buy more...lol.

Ok, I had a good experience with OEMCell on Ebay. Paid for the auction on late Friday night and it was in the mail Monday. Just arrived today, Wednesday, although per the tracking it would have arrived yesterday (Christmas) if mail was being delivered. Seller is about 50 miles away, so quick mail time for me.

Pretty solid feeling to this charger. The weight combined with the cord sticking out the back keeps it very stable. I have one of the clear full body protectors from Bodyguardz (like Invisible Shield) and its a little snug, but I don't have to push it in, it'll drop in just fine. The only thing it does it lift the stand off the desk maybe 1/8" when I pick the phone up fast. It's a very smooth interior and the protector is a little grabby.

The mirror coating looks so good, I don't want to take the protective plastic off it. Very happy for less than $30 including shipping and tax.

I'm happy with this charger as well. Simple and inexpensive. But let's just wait till my Seidio Crystal Hard Case arrives. I may have to rig the two to play nice together

Silly question on the charging pod, but does the blackberry logo light up at all?

luckykelleyk
02-16-2008, 12:54 AM
yes, it does light up. Its actually pretty bright! It is lit up constantly when the charger is plugged into the dock, not just when the bb is sitting in the dock. (P.S. I love this dock!!!)

I bought the Seido desk charger for my 8300 and it works like a charm. I love it. Since I used the case, I can just drop my BB (with case) into the charger. It also comes with an docking adapter for use without the case (like most ipod dock adapters). Highly recommended.

It is compatible with the 83XX. I ordered onw when I ordered the longer life battery.

It looks like its kind of bulky. Aren't there smaller ones? I don't have that of a huge desk ;-)
