Will the Desktop mananger just not run on Vista, or am I doing something wrong? I've tried downloading two versions off of the website (V4.0 and V4.3, I believe.) and I also tried using my Mom's BlackBerry disk she received when she got her BlackBerry from her Company. The downloads from the Website got errors at about 85% or so, and the Disk installed completely, but when I went to run it, it would "flash" on the screen for an instant, and wouldn't boot.

Any suggestions?

4.0 will not work on Vista.

4.2, Service Pack 2 will
4.3 will

Completely uninstall what you have installed. Download one of the above, from here:
BlackBerry Desktop Manager Downloads - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Desktop_Manager_Downloads)

For your 8700c, you will be fine with 4.2, Service Pack 2, withOUT the Roxio Media Manager. You don't need that for the 8700.

Good luck.

I tried 4.2.2 and got an error....

Tried 4.3, installed correctly, restarted, and it won't boot....doing what the others were doing.

Maybe you need a clean uninstall of DM?

Then attempt a fresh install of 4.2 SP2.

Try turning ON the UAC if you have it turned off. I did that and it worked fine. I am running 4.3 currently. Hope that works for you.

Sorry, but what is UAC, exactly?

Edit: Nevermind, I found out what it is. How do I access this?

Gah. This is beginning to become quite frustrating for me. It was already turned off. My Blackberry Arrived today, although I won't get it until tomorrow. (not home.)

Trying a clean uninstall of ALL you have installed. Start fresh with a DM install. See the link above.

I am running Vista and 4.3. First let me recomend not running 4.3 yet. I suggest what JSanders suggested a fresh install of 4.2 SP2. Be sure to totally delete DM first.

Run the install as an Administrator and once installed run DM as Administrator.

Delete and reinstall.

Had already started that, it's strange though, because it WAS working, but it seems the latest bout of Vista/Office 2007 updates broke it for some strange reason.

I do agree with that! I like the features I just wish it played better with Vista. Well I wish everything played better with Vista, ok I will be honest I wish Vista played better with Vista.

Yes, agreed. SP1 RC1 link appeared in my Inbox from MS for Vista last week. Earlier, SP1 RC1 for Office 2007 did too, and then Gold came out a week later! I'm hoping SP1 for Vista (similar to how SP1 for 2k, and SP1 for XP) enhances Vista's playing skills a touch, as I'm getting a bit frustrated with it's behaviour in regards to certain items, this only being one of them, and far from the most prominent.

Got it to work.. right click and run as admin.. thanks... what a pain with vista

i should add, i was not able to get 4.2 sp2 to work.. same problem

only 4.3 is working...

Ok one more update... this seems to be a problem at least with my computer.. During the installation if i select only for this User instead of all users it will not work and changing the folder to something other then progra~1\Research in Motion\ will cause it to fail as well..

got 4.2 working after reinstalling a few times..

I have version 4.2.2.12 and it seems to work fine. However the help file will not run, I get an error message that says it is not in a Vista compatible format. Perhaps someone can say if there is a work around for this.
