Don't know if this goes in the GPS section or here....

A friend of mine got the VZW 8830 today. He *thinks* it has builtin GPS. According to the VZW website, it will do the turn by turn navigation. I would think that would mean it has GPS capabilities. However, when he loads an app like bbtracker or anything else that can use GPS, no data.

Is there something he needs to do to get apps to recognize the GPS? Thanks in advance.

Yes, that has been cussed and discussed here. The VZ 8830 gps will ONLY work with it's own Verizon Navigator. Nothing else.

That about sucks. Sorry for asking something that's already been asked.

it is shocking isnt it? every other phone company just lets you use your GPS if the phone has one. I can use any app that can access GPS data. VZ should be the same way.

I guess the guy in the commercial with the glasses gets VZ navigator for free?
