Hey does anyone know anything about using the bb's data connection for an internet connection from a pc? I have a friend doing this over edge with his nokia phone. Was wondering if it is possiblle with my bb.

My system is WindowsXP home and a bb 8800.

Yup you can do this; its called tethering (http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB05178&sliceId=SAL_Public&dialogID=84210024&stateId=1%200%2084204907)

Fairly easy to set up as well

I would be careful about tethering the BB as a modem though. I've heard of people getting ginormous monthly bills because of data usage. I wouldn't go downloading anything, also, the last I heard RIM didn't support this feature. They have a KB on setting it up but beyond that they can't help as it may be a service provider issue/PC/USB Port/etc. That could have changed by now but when I was in BB Support with RIM it wasn't supported after following the article for setup.

Here is an article about using your BB as a modem with links to other KB's for particular models:

Hope that helps.

I think you all misunderstood me! Tethering will go over the gsm, not edge, and thereby will be on the voice network. That will be VERY expensive. Data is cheap where I live tho. My friend doesn't dial-up, he just attaches the phone via usb to his pc and boots up a little nokia app on the pc and voila he cann surf the web.

Any idea on this for bb?

If you have the BB data plan, and EDGE is available from your provider, tethering will probably be on the EDGE network. Do you have a BB data plan?

No, bb data plans are not available where I live
