I have a Nextel Blackberry 7100i and I installed the blackberry server? on my laptop. Well I installed it wrong and my laptop would send me messages all the time like RIM_bca32 Anyways, my laptop was stolen out of my car about 6 weeks ago and I stopped receiving those weird messages. Now they have started again and every morning I get an email from my laptop. So I know someone has my laptop and is using it. Is there anyway for me to tell what ip this message is coming from? Anyone have a contact of someone I can speak to? Here is the most recent email:

My guess is probably that your laptop is on and connected to the Internet. I don't know if there is anyway to trace but I imagine that someone (RIM) could probably pull an IP. Wouldn't that be great!! Justice!!! :)

Good luck and sorry for what you must be going through.

an IP wouldnt really give them anything besides where the laptop was being used/connected to the internet. unless they are dumb enough to not wipe it and keep using it in the same locations it will not help. also you would have to be able to prove that it was your laptop, a purchase receipt or perhaps the serial number. I do hope you can get it back, but i wouldnt hold your breath unfortunately :(

It takes a court order for the ISP to release any info about an IP, even if you could get it. Sorry to hear, though.

I live in a very rural area and have about ten homes in a mile radius. I have had things missing before and normally find it sooner than later. With that said I'm not too hopeful, but thought it would be pretty cool to call the police and tell them where to go. The laptop was only about 3 months old and since it is sending messages, I'm guessing they didn't wipe it out. It must still have the Nextel software on there.
