I have an AT&T 8800 on BES that I own. The company is switching to company owned blackberry's, and have selected Verizon 8830's, still on BES

If I back up the AT&T phone with desktop manager, can I restore my settings, profiles, applications, etc to the new phone. And then let Account Activation bring over all of the Outlook data?

Is the 8830 essentially the same as the 8800? Can I use my 8800 battery as a spare for the 8830?

Yes, that will work just fine. Done it many times. However, when you make the switch all your settings and data will be restored during the activation with the exception of content store.

Thanks for the very quick replies

John Clark: I'm not sure I understand your "HOWEVER" comment. Are you saying that all of my settings and profiles are stored on the BES and will automatically get onto my new phone when I activate it? Can it really be that easy ? :)

Yep, it's that easy. (depending on the BES version)

And I edited my post above. On a device switch, even a certain amount of messages will be populated back, too. Gotta love being on a BES.

Nicely designed. So I guess the BES knows me by account name, and it stores by preferences and just activates them on the new phone. I have a few profiles with different ring configurations and wasn't looking to rekeying all of that.

Will applications, like SplashID reload the software and data? Nah, it can't be that easy can it?

No, third party apps will not be restored.

You can do this though....
