I normally don’t need to post new threads because I’m usually pretty good about finding what I need using search. However, this is not one of those times. I have a BlackBerry 8800, which I absolutely love. I have installed BBWeather v.74 on my phone. I can’t get it to work for the life of me. I get one of 2 error messages: “Invalid URL parameter” or “open tunnel-failure” depending on whether or not the Disable MDS Proxy button is checked or not. I tried setting up my profile using a zip code for the location id, as well as the location id from WeatherChannel.com and weather.com – still nothing. I tried changing my TCP settings to sp.cingular, username and password blank, and still nothing. I am on the Cingular network (now AT&T) and my phone is unlocked. What steps should I try next? Also, is there perhaps another FREE weather application out there that's better?

Thank you so much for all your help guys!

TCP settings for AT&T:

APN: wap.cingular

Username: wap@<hidden>

Password: CINGULAR1

If you are on a BES then leave the "disable MDS proxy" box unchecked.

If you are not on a BES then check the box.

It's working now!! Woo Hoo! Thank you very much!

One last thing- does it matter if "CINGULAR1" is all capitalized or not?

I think so....change it and try. Though, if it's working why bother?

Follow these steps EXACTLY and your device shouldn't lock up:

1 - Click on the new BBWeather icon.

2 - Since no locations are set up yet, you'll receive an error that there are no profiles set up, just click OK with the trackball.

3 - Press the trackball (NOT the Menu button) and click Options.

4 - Press the Menu key and click Add.

5 - For all US locations, use the zip code for the Location. Use this for zip codes you don't know, or for non-US zip codes:

ASP.NET Resources - Determine location ID for the weather server control (http://www.aspnetresources.com/tools/locid.aspx)

6 - Enter a description name (i.e., LA, Orlando, New York).

7 - You can keep the Forecast Days at 5, or increase it up to 10 days.

8 - If you would like the temp displayed in Fahrenheit, leave the Units as 'Standard'. For Celsius, change it to 'Metric'.

9 - Click OK to save.

Press the Menu button and Close/Save to back out.

I've had up to 10 on mine..... don't know if there is a limit, though.

I installed BB Weather on my VZW 8830 last night and it froze my device. I had to do a hard reset, then remove the app to unfreeze again...a total pain in the @<hidden>$$!

Yeah you really do have to follow blackberryfaq.com method of making BBWeather work. It crashes HARD if you doesn't do it.

Yes, the method of getting BBWeather to work on devices with trackballs has only been documented several hundred times. Even an FAQ.

I used Juuwack's instructions in this post this very afternoon, and they worked perfectly. I highly recommend following them.

And NJBlackberry - if you are from NJ, and went to UMd, and own a blackberry, there is no way you could be offensive.

You did not offend me NJ, it was just my opinion. I think you guys do a great job here. I think though that moderators should take a break now and again so they are more patient with schlubs like me. Cheers

Unfortunatly, it's not your place to tell anyone here they should take a break, especially a moderator who cleans porn spam, language, and answers questions, so there is a clean, informative forum like the one we have here for everyone to enjoy.

Perhaps the lesson here is schlubs should read up and not comment on other's posting habits :-)

if you are on BIS, in the BBW options, check the "Disable MDS" box. You may need to remove the battery and reboot, again.

I got the BBweather to work perfectly. Just wanted to say thanks to you guys for putting up with the newbie rockheads such as myself. Without this forum I'd probably use my Pearl as a boat anchor. (y)

Have you read the first part of this post?

Make sure your TCP is set to:
APN: wap.voicestream.com
Username: (blank)
Password: (blank)

If you are on a BES then leave the "disable MDS proxy" box unchecked.

If you are not on a BES then check the box.

John Clark

What do you mean I have the T-Mobile blackberry pearl 8100 v4.2.1.108 and i just have basic stuff texting and 1000 minutes nothing more no email or interent nothing like that so does that mean i cant have this application and if i cant is there anything else i can get to check out the weather just like bbweather.

thanks

John Clark

This app uses data from a data plan so, no, this app won't work for you.

You might be able to find something that will send you text messages for weather but I'm not familiar with them.

Hi everyone.

BBWeather was working BEFORE I upgraded OS.

I removed the app, reloaded it. Followed juwaack68's instruction step by step, no check on the Disable MDS (I'm on BES).

Still "Invalid URL Parameter."

Location ID RPXX0036 (was working before). BB 8800. App Version 4.2.1.115, Platform 2.3.0.87. No entries in the TCP. DM ver 4.3.

I'm lost here. Thanks in advance.

I'm getting this message "Error: Bad or missing query parameters in request." when trying to use bbweather. It had worked fine for months until last week and I began getting this message. I even had my IT department wipe my 8100 and I reloaded the app...any thoughts??

1. There's no reason to delete the old version first.

2. How do I get BB Weather to work on the 8100 / 8300 / 8800? - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_get_BB_Weather_to_work_on_the_8100_/_8300_/_8800%3F)
