If they ask me I will remove them... but lets face it they are freely available.

Anyone try these yet? Anyone vouch for the location?

Yes we have tried them - they are in my 7100 right now.

Vouch for the location? Are asking if I'm an okay guy?

I tried them in my 7100t and they worked fine.

Download the blackberry developer JDE and then use the javaloader to put the files on your blackberry. For me I copied the .cod files into the bin directory (within the RIM folder) and executed:

javaloader -usb load *.cod

Or something like that.

No.

You can actually... Edit Blackberry.alx Search for themes...
You'll see the default blackberry theme - net_rim_theme_blackberry.cod. Put the new themes in the JAVA subdirectory, and add the filenames in below the default blackberry theme.

acnst

Or create a new alx file.

rcg

I guess that's true but I was sort of answering from a no-brainer point of view. Using the Javaloader is pretty simple. But I stand corrected - you can use the Desktop Manager. :oops:

What version of 4.0 are you using? I have 4.0.0.100 and I get

Just loaded them on my 7100. Just like joshkerr described.
I am not sure I like the Vodaphone theme. Kind of got used to the T-Mobile theme.

Two problems - please help!

1. I'm getting a "cannot find server" error when trying to access rcg's site for the downloads. :(

2. I stripped out the 7730 theme from a firmware pack, loaded it on my 7100 via the javaloader, and although it appeared to install successfully and rebooted the 7100 (or at least I got the hour glass for a while) it does NOT show up in my theme list. Ugh! What am I doing wrong? This is the one I'm hoping to try...

Neat. Works fine, but it's a bummer that you can't hide icons from the Voda theme.

could someone post the 7100v bluetooth profile (I think it's called net_rim_bluetooth or something like that)... or at least compare it to the one on the 7100t and tell me if it's different. I'd heard there are differences and the 7100v version may allow more. This may be an urban myth. I don't think it extends beyond the headset and hands_free profiles, but the BMW car kit supposedly works with the 7100v and not the 7100t.

Sorry about that... The ISP emailed us a while ago indicating that there is a server issue and they are working through it.... Should be back up soon.

Thanks to all who were involved in figuring this out (and hosting the solutions). I was moderately unhappy with the default T-Mobile theme (but I could live with it), but now I have the "classic" 7xxx theme. Great job.

How are you getting around the lack of an IM icon?

77xx small Icons:

The IM icon is there.... it only displays the upper left quarter of it.

I have one. It's the last icon on the list.

Oh, okay. I interpreted "the 77xx theme whacks the IM icon" to mean that it deleted it, but that person meant that it was chopped off. Now I get it.

So now that you guys have checked the few themes out, which one are you sticking with?

For those who are frightend about the voda/icons them on the tmo....

http://www.smartphonedepot.com/product_gallery/7100_themes.html

That link is now updated with a close up of MY 7100 running the voda theme and the small icons theme.

I have been running it for two days with no ill effect

IMO, the T-Mo theme is the best looking and has the most utility.

I agree with bollar; the T-Mobile theme works for me. I can hide the icons I don't need and move the rest around. And Compose is back where it was meant to be.

What do you mean compose is back where it was meant to be? Do you have it under apps or at the top level?

I am using the 7700 theme on the 7100t. With the 7700 theme, all of the icons are back on the home screen. No more levels.

Do you see any difference in response time with the different themes? Do they effect performance?

rcg

Seems to be the same responsiveness no matter what the theme.

rcg

Something I noticed... if you install new apps on the 7100 it will erase the apps installed by the loader.... so I suppose using the DM is the better choice long term.

[EDIT] I just added the file names to my blackberry.alx and copied the theme files to my java folder. all better now.

Is there anyway I could get step by step instructions to do this? I downloaded the JDE but am lost on how to load the files.

bfrye
10-10-2004, 10:49 AM
Download the files to your PC. Preferably to the dir that javaloader.exe is located it (C:\Program Files\Research in Motion\Blackberry JDE 3.7\bin I think, look for it around there)

Open a command line to the same dir you downloaded the files to and javaloader.exe

Type: javaloader -usb load [filename.cod]

You should then see it uploading to the device.

Done!

I used the desktop manager application to load my cod files. Just make yourself an alx XML file and you set!

JMF0
10-10-2004, 12:40 PM
datafirm - did you just use the single .cod file? When I downloaded the Vodafone file it had 12 individuall cod files in it (it was a zip file)....How did you alter the alx file to accomodate 12 files or did you make 12 alx files in order to load?

Same with the 7700 small icons file - there are 8 individual cod files after you unzip. Can you get them all loaded at once with 1 alx file and if so what syntax did you use?

It would be great if you posted the syntax for your alx file for both Vodafone and the 7700 Theme set if you loaded both.

THANKS!
Jeff

Do not unzip the files. Keep the file extension COD and load the file to your Blackberry either using a selfcreated or modified ALX file or javaloader.exe.

How does one make an ALX file? I'd like to drop a few onto my 7280 to play with and see if they'll work. Sorry I'm still in blackberry 101 ;)

Make a copy of Blackberry.alx then edit the original to include the new themes.

lol ...and you have around 400 postings

To create an alx file use notepad (or any other text editor) and create an simple text file with the extension ".ALX". The alx file and the COD file you want to load must be in the same directory. For an example of an ALX file take look at the following code. Based on this example it should be very easy to create your own file. If you have more than one COD file to load to your Blackberry then just add another line with the file name of this file in <files></files>-section.

<loader version="1.0">
<application id="BB 7730 Theme">
<name>
BB 7730 Theme
</name>
<description >
</description>
<version >
0.1
</version>
<fileset Java="1.0">
<files >
net_rim_theme_blackberry_large.cod
</files>
</fileset>
</application>
</loader>

Did you rename the .zip files to .cod, since you say not to unzip the files?

Just trying to be sure I understand what you are saying.

Thanks for the help.

joshkerr

I unziped the files into the same folder as the javaloader.exe file. Then from that folder I executed:

javaloader -usb load *.cod

Everything copyed onto the blackberry boom, new themes.

I loaded the new themes and they worked great. However, I just did my first reboot with the battery removed and now it won't come up. I wonder if it is related to the themes I loaded? I have not had this problem before. Anyone else that has loaded the themes tried to do a reboot? Anyone iwth any idea on what to do to get it to come up. I can't get it to connect to my PC either.

If you want to load a Vodaphone theme on your Blackberry 7230 ( that's the one that I test mine on) click on the link below. I already modified the ALX file to load on my T-Mobile 7230. Aside from having the default Blackberry one, now I have the Vodaphone one :smile:

Try it out and let me know if anyone has found the O2 theme for 7230/7290. They have a one for this type of phone that's just quality (the cool blue theme for the 7100 but for the Blackberry 7230/7290) I have yet to fetch this one.

I'm using vodaphone. It's pretty sweet. Sometimes it says Cingular instead of T-Mobile. Best theme though
