Can anyone explain how to have the SMS and email notification play a longer alert. If you put a ringtone as an alert it only plays a second or two and then stops. What is the limit, any ideas?

Change it from 2 or 3 beeps to one, and see if the ringtone plays longer.

Change the ringtone to something that plays longer. I use one for SMS that plays 1 minute. That should fix your problem.

This is in contrast to emails which does bleep, led light glows and envelop appears---- showing received using secured desktop

Is the file UNDER 512kb in size, and less than 30 seconds in length? It should be. If not, no go. check the FAQ.

Don't mean to hijack the thread I just don't want to spam the forum with my new threads and keep related items in one... in terms of alerts... is there a way to make the screen light up when a message (txt or whatever) is received?

No.

And that is perfect example of thread hijacking, and it is not highly valued around here.
