View Full Version : Acting like my old POS Moto Q

I don't know what the deal is lately -- after almost 6 months of OUTSTANDING performance, my VZW BB 8830 is starting to act funny:

1) I'm not getting all my text messages -- about 1/3 aren't getting through. Someone will text me, I'll get the little yellow envelope icon and the flashing star at the white envelope icon and the unit will vibrate... but no message pops up and in a few seconds both the yellow envelope and star disappear -- ???

2) The hourglass pops up all the time now -- in the course of using the unit, the hourglass will pop up and start rotating -- like the unit is thinking. It never used to do this and now it does it often.

3) Sometimes it'll freeze up -- The same hourglass will appear and won't go away, and there's nothing I can do short of pulling out the battery.

This weird possessed-by-a-demon like behavior is eerily remniscent of my old Moto Q.

Help??? Anyone? Thanks

Have you done a Hard Reset (Battery pull while the device is on) recently? What is your free memory Menu>options>Status? If you get a lot of messages and set them to keep forever you might be low on space.

E-

P.S. Also, did you install anything recently? New software, etc?

That is EXTREMELY LOW!!!

Try some of these steps

How do I free up memory on my 8800? - BlackBerryFAQ.com (http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_free_up_memory_on_my_8800%3F)

Why is my 8100 Pearl losing its call logs or message logs? - BlackBerryFAQ.com (http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Why_is_my_8100_Pearl_losing_its_call_logs_or_message_logs%3F)

Disregard it being for the 8100.

Awesome. I did all the steps outlined plus I removed BB Maps (I use Google Maps which seem much better to me). So now I'm at 1884376 Bytes File Free. Is that adequate? Any other expendable applications I can remove or anything else I can do?

Thanks!

what all do you have loaded. Themes, ringtones, pictures. All that stuff eats memory.

Well I removed BB Password Keeper too and now I'm at 2408764 Bytees Free. Hopefully that'll tide me over for a while.

I don't have ringtones or themes, just the pics that come with the unit.

Thanks a lot -- my BB seems to running like a Lambo Gallardo again :)!

That is good to hear. Frequent battery pulls are a good idea as well. They help keep memory adequate. I tend to pull mine once a week, it doesn't need to be pulled that often in my case, but it never hurts.

That still seems low to me. I have between 15-18 Mb left over on mine after periodic battery pulls. Have you deleted the sample video? How many 3rd party apps are installed?

Yeah I did delete that shortly after I got the unit.

I have Beyond 411, BB Weather, Gmail, Google Maps, Viigo, Data Vault, MobiPocket Reader, Opera Mini, and Audible.

I just checked and now I'm down to 1809196 Bytes Free - that is 1.8 MB right? How can I get it up to the 15-18 that you have?

Ok will do -- battery pulls once/week. Thanks!

No extra themes, only the default images and audio . . . Something is taking up memory. eBooks? A great big bunch of old messages? Something.

I would guess that ebooks with Mobipocket and the Audible feeds -- perhaps Viigo as well -- are what are chewing up memory. As others have mentioned, maybe old emails as well. Unless you are actively using it, get rid of it.
