I just got my first Blackberry and will sync my personal e-mail with Outlook on my PC. I personal account gets a TON of junk mail/spam, and Outlook does a great job sorting this out (by puttin it into my junk mail) before I check my inbox. My fear is that I sync my e-mail and I get notified (on my BB) everytime I get the junk too. Is there any way to make sure only the stuff that makes it to my inbox makes it to my BB? I just want to know if it's possible before I spend all day trying to figure it out, not knowing it wasn't possible.

I don't think you can do it with Outlook alone, because what is happening is this:

Outlook checks for email
Blackberry Desktop Manager "intercepts" the email and delivers a copy to your blackberry
Outlook receives the message and processes it (Inbox if legit, Junk email if spam)

What you would need is something in front of both Desktop Manager and Outlook that will scan your incoming messages before they get a chance to see the message. Products that integrate with Outlook will not do the job correctly. Check out a freeware product called popfile (POPFile - Automatic Email Classification (http://popfile.sourceforge.net/))

Spam filtering really needs to take place before mail hits your inbox.

I agree.. I noticed that ALL my email hits the BB whether or not its parsed to a junk folder in outlook. This is just another reason why I been using Google more and more versus a POP account with my provider.

I will check that POPFile out too. If I use the redirector does it intercept the message before it hits Outlook too?

I'm willing to pay for something too. The POPFile seems like a lot of work to get it working correctly. Any other ideas?

I've stopped a lot of spam from reaching my Blackberry by using filters on my email accounts on BIS. I set them up online at Verizon's BIS site. You can filter by subject line and tell it not to forward to the Blackberry. I have filters for Viagra, etc. -- if the subject line contains viagra, do not forward.

I have the filter thing going, but it is rediculous how many still get through. I'm adding more words all the time, but still not having a lot of luck. I've seen a couple spam softwares when I do a search and I believe one of them is sponsor to this forum. Has anyone had any luck with these? It's worth the $50 or so to me to be able to have this taken care of.

I have a personal POP account w/Road Runner that had become a SPAM target when I used it to register a web site I use to run.

I've now set it up with Google GMail account. I set up the Gmail account w/IMAP access to my RR account, and set up the Gmail account on my Pearl...Gmail does a good job of clearing out SPAM so it does not reach my Pearl.

I've set the "reply to" address on the Gmail account = my Road Runner account, so replies from that account appear to come from the RR account.
