Hi i was just given a blackberry8800 from a family member, he already had stuff on it phone numbers, programs ect., but before i switch from my cellphone to the BB he gave me, i wanna reformat everything, so i can start with it fresh.

Anyone know what i need to do?

Welcome to the forums.

To delete all data, click on the Options icon (wrench) and then Security Options, then General settings. From there press the Menu button (left of trackball w/ the dots on it) and then click Wipe Handheld...and follow the prompts.

and after you do that promptly forget how to do it! Accidentally wiping a device is the stuff of bad dreams!

I suggest you wipe it clean. Go to Options > General Options > click your Menue button and finally click Wipe Handheld.

That should do the trick.

Wiping the unite will erase all data but it will not remove any 3rd party software that was installed.

To delete the software you'll need this:

It will wipe everything! If you want you can back up your BB and restore only the items you want.

Hmmm...you may have some 3rd party apps, let us know what happens.

Interesting that your family member didn't give you the password, or you didn't contact them for the password.....

Shhh..no we are all sleeping ;-)

You will probably be able to make calls, but unless you add a Blackberry Data Plan to your account, you won't be able to send/receive email or use 3rd party applications.

For AT&T I believe the BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) plan is $30/mo.

so it would be an added 30$ to my current plan?

If you want email/3rd party applications to work, yes.

Search for OZ in the Aftermarket Software forum - I believe you can use that for internet access without a Blackberry data plan. I think.... don't quote me.
