I would like to use a USB server to connect my 8800, but the USB server and 8800 don't like each other. The USB server support people say the 8800 is violating the USB spec (which seems a little unlikely).
How can I find out what is really happening?
the USB server is a keyspan US 4-AG
Why am I doing this anyway? - someone is bound to ask - see bottom of post.

Your BlackBerry 8800 is violating the USB spec. It's asking for more than the 500mA that USB is supposed to supply. It may be doing something as simple as asking for 501mA and then falling back to 500 but that extra 1mA is enough to cause the message.

Device never even appears in the server utility
Same happens with a BlackBerry 8800.
A USB disc (2.5" which runs off USB power) works fine.
an HTC phone is likewise fine.
latest firmware and server software installed (2.0.2)

I'm testing in a customer lab environment, and the 'desktop' PCs are mostly virtual machines. If I can use a USB server I don't need to travel to the lab for the things that need the device to be tethered.
How can I find out what is really happening?
