.....and her office service provider was with Orange.
I am also with Orange on a contract but just for my phone, no black berry. When I put my sim card in the Blackberry it allowed me to use its phone options but not internet (data services). I was thinking is it possible for me to upgrade my phone sim card with orange for it to be able to use the internet features on the blackberry, or buy a new sim card/account so as to enable me to use the blackberry internet. Is this not possible?
Many thanks for any help.
ps I asked a chap in the range shop and he thought this was not possible? But thought I would double check, as I have seen many second hand blackberrys been sold on ebay etc and thought if you could only have ever one account on a blackberry why would you ever buy as second hand one when it can only ever be used once? Confused.
Regards
Vas
The first issue is did the BB come from a company with an IT policy on it? If so you will need to have it removed by that company. Then it will become a plain old BB and you can get service for it like any other. Remember to have them remove it from their servers also. Your sister can have this done. Used BB's are sold all the time and reconfigured for new users.

pasting you how-to remove BES settings.
Not written by me tho, so don't give me the creds for it
Step 1
Ensure the Blackberry Desktop Manager is installed using Blackberry Internet Service, and not Blackberry Enterprise Server. If you are unsure, it would probably be a good idea to uninstall the Desktop Manager and start again.
If you don't have the CD that came with your Blackberry, the Software can be downloaded here.
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Step 2
Download the file policy.bin
http://home.no/idlepimp/policy.bin
Save it in your Blackberry installation directory
C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry
Step 3
Wipe your Blackberry, creating a backup if necessary. Select Options/Security/Wipe on the Device.
Step 4
Close the Desktop Manager if it is open.
Step 5
From the Windows Start Menu select Run..., and at the prompt type regedit. In the tree on the left hand side, navigate to:
HKEY_Current_Users\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\PolicyManager
Right-Click the Policy Manager Folder and select New/String Value. Name the value "Path". Now, Double-Click the Path Subkey and set Value Data to:
C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\policy.bin
Step 6
Open the Desktop Manager.
Step 7
Connect the Device.
Verification
Once complete, the Options/Security screen on your Blackberry should not contain references to an IT Policy, you should now be able to change all settings (including password prompts), and install Third Party Applications.

You may or may not need to remove the IT policy from the device. It's possible the IT policy isn't restrictive. In that case, it's not necessary. However, it never hurts to remove it.
Remove IT Policy (http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-blackberry-discussion/67224-remove-policy.html)
Also, you will need to call your carrier and have them change your data plan to a BB data plan. you'll be good to go.

Doesn't the unit belong to your "sister's" employer? I know that anything we issue out is an asset and belongs to the company. I would double check before you risk her job.:x
off my soap box.

some companies make you get your own. but i believe you can just get the data plan add on and configure your blackberry to make the internet work. im sure she has some enterprise settings and other stuff there.

I hope you like your BB, Vas.
If you want to do a small amount of browsing (but NOT mail) it is possible to do so without a BB data contract. Check out this page:
How to Connect to Internet with Your BlackBerry without Paying For Data Plan (http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Connect-to-Internet-with-Your-BlackBerry-without-Paying-For-Data-Plan)
Your phone will be a lot more functional with a full BB contract, but see how you go. Also, watch your bill carefully so you know what you're spending! My g/f spent 8 GBP in 3 days before she relinquished and bought an 'unlimited' BB data contract.
