Hello,
I was hoping if someone could answer the following question.
Does GPRS run over GSM?
I have researched the topic but it never seems to mention how the two are related.
Are they running in tandem or does GPRS run over GSM?
Thanks,

Yes, GPRS operates on top of GSM.
GSM is the voice (and SMS) network.
GPRS is the data portion that rides on top of it.

i had over 10,000 pending messages on our bes today and hours of troubleshooting later still scratching my head.
Only issues were that vodafone had "GSM" issues today but when I asked if it affected GPRS I was told no!
I stupidly took their word for it and ruled it out.
I'm glad I came back to that question.

If there were GSM issues... then there were GPRS issues as well.
You can't have GPRS without GSM.
The pending messages were likely a result of the carrier network problems.
Once you got GPRS back, your pending messages should have cleared.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/125)
Ok further to the explaination, I think GSM is equivalant to your phone line and GPRS is the ADSL line but wireless.
