It is supposed to roll out 3/24 by some accounts, but some others say it will be a gradual release with upgrades first and retail sales in early April. I am trying to get a feel for how quick they are getting out there, as I need an 8800 for my mom, and figure the prices should drop when the 8820's are in people's hands.

Thanks

I thought they have been out for a little while already?

At any rate I ordered mine online (AT&T) 2 days ago and received an e-mail saying it will arrive tomorrow (Monday.) The shipping center is out of Fort Worth, very close to me, so I was happy about the fast/free delivery.

I keep checking t-mo's website, but its not up on there yet. All the information I've seen is that it's supposed to be available everywhere today. I'm anxiously awaiting, I love my curve, but I work in an office where I can't bring my camera phone, so....
If anybody sees any information, let me know!

I ordered mine from customer care this am. The guy told me they will be out in the stores on 4/7, but are available for upgrades now. I had the express delivery so I should have it by Wed.

The price on the 8800 has dropped. They have it for $249 on the site.

It's finally up on their website, ordered mine and choose the express shipping as well. Hopefully it'll show up soon!

Yeah, but that is with a 2 year extension. I'm thinking more of the Buy Sell Trade forum or Ebay.

aha! I've been seeing them for around $200-$250 but the trackballs are always filthy. try craigslist as well.

umm its blue. I'm turned off. I may be refusing delivery.

What is blue, the phone? That's odd as all the pictures on their website advertise it as black. I'm upgrading from a purple phone though...blue is a step in the right direction haha.

Pics when I get it, should be anytime now...

the pic on the blackberry site and on the t-mo upgrade site are both in blue. I'm going to disassemble and put my black case on it. it looks like the original cingulair 8800.

The pictures are kinda hard to tell the difference between the dark blue and black, I'm hoping its actually black and the picture just makes it look a little blue, otherwise I'll be buying a black case and giving the disassembly a try myself...

I remember when the 8320 came out and the rumors were that it was gold and titanium. Everybody wanted to puke over the gold. The gold color turned out quite nice and most everyone who saw them liked them. I would wait until it shows up and my guess is, when it comes in blue, it will be well liked.

Oh, you're talking about the T-Mobile version. Sometimes I forget there are different providers :P

I just picked up my 8820 for AT&T. It is black. So far it's been great, still setting everything up.

I hated the gold at first, then ended up buying one. I also ended up sending it back. this is Terita being Terita. I'm just hoping I like the blue.

Is it really blue for sure? I have seen the photos but I have just not seen the device in person yet and am apprehensive about the color. I wish it were black. Maybe I'll just find an 8800 and switch the cases!

Sorry if this was already resolved or addressed but if anyone who has the tmo version of the 8820, please reply about any issues with using a bluetooth headset and talking over wifi using UMA. For me, 8320 works sometimes and kicks over to cell network when using Jawbone. Would like to know since i may upgrade to the 8820 instead.

Looks black to me. My local brick and Mortar T=Mo store said they should have stock early next week. I may have to drop by and check it out. Their may be an unlocked T-mobile branded 8800 up for sale on the forums soon.

I just ordered my 8820 through tmo retentions. Got it for $339 + waived activation + 15 xtra for express shipping. I also got a linksys free router. They waived the mail in rebate for the router. They also waived my phone number change. Not too bad.

I just got mine an hour or so ago, yes its true, its blue, but its such a dark blue it looks black. I don't think I'm going to bother changing the case, all in all I'm pretty happy with it so far, now just gotta move all my data over!

Here are a couple pics of the new toy that arrived today... see, it looks pretty black to me.. you really have to get up close to realize its blue.

Also I'd like to apologize for my poor photography skills...

That is a very dark shade of blue. Just like my Samsung T509S, you have to angle it just right or be very close to realize it's not black.

I knew it! See my post above. RIM has done very well with colors. They have turned out quite nice. I would take any color BB.

got mine yesterday

V4.2.2.193 Platform 2.5.0.43

color is a dark blueberry, not bad but I liked the curve color better.

overall I'm pleased with the phone and a big fan of the telenav GPS.

My one complaint is the speakerphone quality. It's behind the upper back case like the curve but it sounds much more muffled and I haven't found a case like seaidios with the cutouts.

Nice blue color.

Looks like the blue from the 8700g on t-mobile!

Now if only the curve came in that color. Oh ya!

Only one I have seen where I didn't like the color was the Gold 8100. I think it was because the keys were gold too-seemed like a little too much gold. I have the gold Curve and like the color very much.
Ultimately, with all of the options availible for colored skins and sleeves, color should never be a make or break factor in deciding which handset to buy.

I thought that the speakerphone was pretty good back when I had the 8800. Is there something about the one on the 8820 that muffles the sound?

This is one device that is making me want another BlackBerry. I keep moving from WM to BlackBerry to Nokia/Symbian and each has distinct advantages but none really gets it all right...damnit!

@<hidden>^ it "sounds" like the speaker is trying to be really loud but is being muffled/distorted by the back case. Same design as the curve, but side by side, curve speakerphone is better

Speaker Port is on top of the 8830 "Where the sound emits the loudest" .. I guess their logic was that while holstered the speaker port would be pointing up toward you. Big Mistake IMO.

The 8800 I recieved from t-mobile is black. They sent it to me as a replacement for my busted Dash. Have to say it was quite a nice surprise. My wife has the verizon model through her job and that is silver and very hard to see the key pad.

Can someone clarify if the tmo 8820 just only has wifi and if tmo disabled the GPS?

Dinan3
04-01-2008, 06:54 PM
it has gps and wifi...no t-mo did not disable the gps. what makes the tmo 8820 better than the att 8820 is that you can use UMA with the tmo one with tmo service.

good ?, but i can tell you that it's on the box....

Why has tmobile not labeled the 8820 as a HS@<hidden> phone on their website like all the other HS@<hidden> phones (i'm talking about the icon they use), the myFavs one is there....

After watching the video, I saw that the UMA icon on his tmobile 8820 was different than mine. I also checked my software and saw that it was up to date. Could there be any other reason why the UMA icon would be different?

i viewed the linked video and my UMA icon is exactly like the one shown. But JC is right, different themes call for different icons. i use the Today Plus theme.

not really the same. Today Plus is a today theme with a zen flavor. I LOVE IT because it gives the best of both worlds. You can download the today plus theme from your handheld's blackberry web browser. mobile.blackberry.com

once there, scroll down to "fun & games" and select "themes"

once in themes, accept the user agreement so you can be re-directed to the OTA page.

scroll down and it'll be there "Today Plus"

the best theme IMO and totally FREE!!!

Enjoy!!!

***the regular today theme works just as great***
