Does anyone know how to enable your AT&T 8820 to make phone calls via a Wi-Fi network? i.e. T-Mobile

If you want your AT&T 8820 to make UMA phone calls... then you need to unlock it and use it on T-Mobile's network.

AT&T doesn't have UMA.

Do I need the T-Mobile router? I spoke to T-Mobile about this and they said it would cost me $10 / month and I had to get 1 of their routers. Assuming this, I would need a T-Mobile plan. If I unlock the phone, do I need to get a T-Mobile sim or can I use my AT&T sim? Thanks!

Even with the AT&T 8820 unlocked and being used on TMo it won't give you UMA. UMA requires a TMO branded device.

Out of curiosity, why is this? Did AT&T disable the hardware, or does the T-Mobile network understand that the device is not T-Mobile branded? I am guessing there is no hack, because, by reading many of your other posts, you would have given that information. Also there is nothing in the Wiki/FAQ about such a hack.

Oh well.
