Last official word from RIM was "Spring '08". My last guess was that it would be released roughly around the same time as the 8330. I would expect it either next week or the following. I doubt we'll have to wait until the VZW release.

Sith_Apprentice

waiting for a VZW release has absolutely NOTHING to do with 4.5. They are two completely unrelated events. And the O2 website just has a note for an upcoming OS release, it has no mention of 4.5. Would be very amusing if this were not the 4.5 release, but another 4.2.2.x release.

I heard from the friend of a guy who was hitchhiking in front of Verizon Wireless' world headquarters that there would be no new BlackBerrys until 2011 for Verizon. They are waiting for OS v6.0 to come out.

I know I should have posted this last Tuesday, but this is how silly this thread has become.

Wow. Reading this amazes me so much. I can't wait for the stable "official" release of the software myself but this will not make your Blackberry allow you to time travel, jump higher or run faster. I would rather wait for them to exterminate the bugs instead of releasing early and have everyone complain about how this and that keeps going down or messing up.

4.5 will be a nice refresh... The html piece missing is a major bummer. I am not sure how blackberry will compete with windows mobile and iphonish things in the future. Rim has dominated in the enterprise world, but they are to slow in implementation and new features.

They move at a snails pace.. I know.. I have dealings with rim devs.

Truth is that i don't know why people, that understand what is a blackberry and what a OS upgrade means, will be complaining about, as far as i can tell (v4.5.0.9 over BIS) the new look of tasks, browser, messages, etc. is really nice, the (i think) new font is really good and full windows video. My only problem so far is that i haven't been able to open an attachmente ussing docs to go, but i'll probably buy the premiun version when is out, so not a big deal.

so, i really don't know why people will complain about. :?

We're all on edge b/c BB "said" the OS would be out in April. They should have told us it would be out in November of 08 and then surprise us by releasing it earlier.

i think the issue is that the carriers should have received the OS for certification two months ago and are just now getting it, per JC's post the other day. that will have ultimately delayed the OS release by atleast two months (from an April/May timeframe), if not longer (which may very well be the case, depending on the carrier). at best, i think we may see something from Asia over the next couple weeks, if history holds true.

I know they won't, but I just wish RIM would come out and tell us. Is it April or May/June or July. I know they want to put it out soon, and I know that they won't put it out unless all the bugs are fixed. From the sounds of those who have the Beta version, the biggest issues is a memory leak which would be a major flaw. But you've got to know if it is close to being released or not.

since NO carrier in the world has certified this OS, what you have is still not a final version (provided it is "certified by RIM" not quite sure what that means). Things can still very much change from what you have to the final release.

Lol. Seriously :P if you don't like BlackBerry's then go! An simple user update SHOULDN'T make you stay or leave to another phone, I mean, if something wasn't working correctly I'd understand that, but all the other os's are working "fine," and that there's no real reason to be upset. We'd all love to have the new os, and we're all waiting for it, but if an UPDATE to allow voice recording (because I assume you knew you couldn't do that before with ur current BlackBerry model) to make you leave, well then just leave :P rim'll get this out when they can. My phone still goes on the internet, and I still can use jivetalk, and email, so, yes, I'd like the update, and I can't wait but I'm not dying! Or leaving (yet, if I do leave it won't be because of a darn update hehe)

Things included in that version are (that I've noticed so far):
- Video recording
- New message view (much cleaner)
- L theme
- New browser

I'm sure there are more. Those stand out for me at the moment.

I think the big changes for 4.5 are the Docs2Go support and HTML support in email. Not really interested in trying the beta though. I'll wait until it's released.

Forgive me, if I am wrong but I thought HTML email was scrapped a few weeks (maybe months at this point time is just slipping with 4.5 stuff) ago. I am mainly looking foward Doc2Go, Voice Notes, Play Lists/YouTube support for my 8830 :) .

4.5 OS is capable of HTML rendering, but requires a BES or BIS version that also supports it. Neither of those are out either.

Nope and I am not sure, I have not seen in any info about 4.5 on the 8707. Yes on the 8700, just not sure on the 8707.

Some of us with an 8100 can't use stereo bluetooth, annoying. Personally, I am waiting for the new OS just for this reason.

Well wait, wait, wait....
RIM is on the edge of getting ***** slapped by shareholders with reoccurring delays in server software and handheld OS's. Their biggest mistake was putting dates or even estimates for delivery... Here we are just over a month to WES and they really haven't delivered anything that they had promised for Q4 '07 or Q1 '08. So what's next for WES yet another show of "ARGON" and then try to gloss over two missed dates for BES 4.1.5, never mind the HTML mail removal...
RIM is either getting a little too arrogant or sloppy. I'm not sure of which yet...
My two cents and those waiting for 4.5 may have to wait until WES to get 4.3 with a little dressing on it....

The problem is no matter what 4.5 brings people sill still not be happy because of the delays. Even if everything works perfectly and there are no bugs, we'll all find something to complain about it. If there was no "hype" I think the roll out would go better

4.3 will be out before then so you'll get a lot of the nice features you're waiting for in 4.5. Not sure why people don't understand this.

Well, maybe because it's not true?
4.3.1 was scrapped and has evolved into 4.5.They'll be a 4.3.0 release. Might not hit all carriers as officially supported for all devices but it will be available (soon).

nah... on the 81xx series yes. But the 83xx series is beyond that now (except for the illusive 8330--it already has 4.3.

But it is pretty well documented that RIM is skipping 4.3 for the remainder. Yes, i have seen and used 4.3 on the Curve also, but I doubt I will ever see it on a TMo or AT&T OS upgrade download site.

purephase
04-15-2008, 08:39 PM
Which isn't to say that you can't use it at all.. ;) As I said, it might not be available for all carriers and devices but it will be available off the BlackBerry site (soon).

It's still significantly better than 4.2.

Isn't there supposed to be added audio support with these releases? I thought I saw somewhere in the posts of added bass and treble settings or equalizer. This may have been 4.5 OS not sure.

From what I've heard, OS 4.5 is back to beta again. There have been many bugs to work out and I doubt if we'll see any releases in April at all. There are still bugs in the .21 version that is rumored to be in testing now. Even after a good (relatively) bug free version hits the carriers they will have to test some more to make sure no other bugs have been introduced. It's going to be a while, folks.

I don't think this is the long awaited software upgrade. I believe (don't quote me on this) the 8330 already came with 4.3 loaded on it. This may just be a small bug fix release.

Great news! DataViz will be launching Documents To Go Premium Edition in June 2008. Anyone currently signed up on the announce list will be notified via e-mail the moment it is available. If you are not signed up, please do so below.

Since Documents To Go will be offically launching in June then we must have 4.5 in June (latest)... I would hope sooner... that quote is directly from dataviz's website.
