Are you trying to download via the BB? Or are you using your work PC and the company has blocks in place?

If it is something your company has done because they own the PC and BB, then you really shouldn't try to circumvent those policies. Not good for keeping your job.

There is no reason you should be blocked by RIM unless your company blocks the site download which is usually via FTP. If you have a personal PC , try down loading the Desktop Manager on it. But I agree with Dubdub, the reason for an IT policy is to prevent exactly what you are doing. Another thing, did you fill out the information form RIM uses when you access the download site? They will reject your request if not completely filled in.

Are you trying to download the RIM software from your BlackBerry? No, you can't do that. There is no reason to, either. You can't use the file you are trying to download on your BB.

Download it from your PC.

An IT policy on your BB won't interfere with a download from your PC. :)

Yeah im on my own PC It would'nt download from the site though Im having to get a friend to download and bring it round on disk.

well the links given above and the links from blackberry.com work. careful downloading anything through limewire, more viruses there than anything else.

try a battery pull on the device. with the device powered ON pull the battery out for 30 seconds, then put it back in.

also i just noticed from your download link originally that is the US server. RIM doesnt necessarily allow access to all parts of the site from all IP ranges. many downloads are continent/area specific. try BlackBerry - BlackBerry Wireless Handheld Devices, Email, Software, GPS, Internet & Video (http://eu.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/) site (i think thats the link)

That's living dangerously. The limewire network is full of trojans, viruses and the like. Some will steal you passwords and log your keystrokes. I run a spyware help forum and we get lots of people who got infected from downloading stuff from limewire.

a. A BES IT Policy could block SMS messages.

b. Your firewall setting could also block SMS.

Any ideas on how to unblock them? Ive tried the IT Policy and no luck. Is there really nothing you can do with the Firewall? Because the thought of having a BB with no SMS capabilities is pretty bad. Thanks again.

Do you have a BES IT Policy on your device?

JSanders
04-07-2008, 08:16 AM
If it is firewall blocked, look at Options > Security > Firewall. If SMS is checked to be blocked, remove the check and save.

neddy knacker
04-07-2008, 08:27 AM
Ive been in there and all the checks are removed it should be letting me make messages. The status of the firewall says "enabled" but SMS, MMS, PIN and the Blackberry internet service boxes are all un-checked!

JSanders
04-07-2008, 08:30 AM
repeat.

Do you have a BES IT Policy on your device?

This has been mentioned several times in the thread... and has not been definitively answered. If you have one, the SMS just might be denied by your IT Policy. Is this a corporate owned BB?

neddy knacker
04-07-2008, 08:33 AM
Yeah I think so it says

IT Policy name:Default
Last Updated:

But ive tried using John Clarks instructions on removing an IT Policy but it just isnt having it. Thanks.

Oh I bought the Blackberry off Ebay and as far as I know it isnt company owned?

JSanders

Finally, answers.

Follow the instructions here to remove the IT policy:
Remove IT Policy - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.net/wiki/index.php/Remove_IT_Policy)

Sometimes, it just doesn't work. If so, return your BB to the eBay seller, get your money back, and leave the appropriate feedback for the seller. IT Policies should be removable, but can be tricky, and if the device has not been removed from the BES, the policy could be pushed back to your BB, again.

Yeah I think so it says

Should have said that in the first place!

Check the FAQ article about buying a used BB from eBay.
