if i wanted to make the switch from the pearl to a curve will moving the sim card from one to another be all i need to do to get the phone to work?

Yes, and you should be able to your the Switch Device Wizard in the Desktop Manager to port everything over. If you are using BIS you will need to login to your BIS account and update the PIN and IMEI and resend service books. But yes, swap the sim and your should be able to take calls and text with nothing else done.
